[Closed] Galaxy s4 battery draining overnight

Didn't plug the charger in last night and it was on around 80% when I went to sleep around 01.00. Woke up at 08.00 and the phone has 20% left. Battery does go down pretty fast but not usually a problem as I am usually near a charger and it charges really fast.

Any ideas what could be causing this?

Do you set if to flight mode? While not as effective as a Crackberry's "Sleep" mode for retaining batter life, it certainly helps.

Do you have any comms applications installed like Tu Go that are keeping the wake timer locked on?

I turn off bluetooth, gps and wifi when not in use, and use a simple radio button widget to turnm them on with a single press when I need them.

Can you not just look at the battery monitor and see what it was? I have a couple of games that I need to fully exit or they run in the background sucking energy

OP when I experience similar issues with my iPhone it's almost always background app updates/downloads. The other thing that drains battery is wireless/network coverage dropping out and reconnecting constantly. As @cfh says the easiest way to preserve battery overnight if not charging is to put phone on flight mode. It could be of course that your battery is getting old but you'd notice it losing charge quickly during the day too - is that what you mean by battery going down fast ? If so get a new battery, I think that's easy to do on the Samsungs

Google services updates are a nightmare on android for this. I ended up resetting my s3 to stop it them happening as turning them off proved impossible..

Do you run a task killer? Don't do that.

Can't remember offhand if Samsung do something TouchWiz-y with it, but you should be able to see battery stats in Settings. There are many third party apps which will give you more detailed info (though amusingly may drain the battery even faster in doing so, look for reviews).
