Audi A3 some say already a classic?
that may be the boldest claim yet!
BMW M Coupe on the other hand 8)
All Peugeots but....
205 1.9gti
306 and 106 Rallye
406v6 coupe. Big brembo 4pots and 200bhp through a lazy v6 and it was pretty too.
BMW M Coupe
mmmmmmm tasty
Dare I throw a spanner in the works 😳 and suggest that the Prius might attain classic status
I'm not sure I can see the Golf R32 and Focus RS becoming classics tbh. The original Golfs are almost classics now but can a 5th/6th generation of a particular design be iconic enough to reach classic status. The original hot hatches were groundbreaking in their concept/design as well as being good cars.
Completely agree. Stick a big engine and 4wd in a dull car thats on its 6th incarnation. Not a classic at all. Surely it only appeals to die hard VW fans?
I mentioned the Ka becoming a classic in another thread a week or so ago. Can't remember what thread it was. Also mentioned the Puma.
Struggling to think of many others....
Original Civic Type R?
Audi A3 some say already a classic?

It was a tough choice between the A3 and the R8 but the A3 wins as this is the economy era and if your co2 is in triple figures its so not cool or classic anymore 🙁
Subaru P1 if not already will be a classic car some day. Looking at these modern cars I think the BMW 1M has all the attributes to become a classic its such a great little hot hatch just shame about the price. Its no Ford RS500 though I think that will still be kicking around as an all time great in another 25 years.
Agree with bearnecessities, the DS3 is one of those, fairly rare, examples of the designer just getting everything right, from pretty much every angle. I love those cars, in exactly the same way I fell in love with the Puma, the first time I saw one. Even now, when I see a Puma I get a bit misty-eyed, I really loved that little car, it was beautiful to look at, and so much fun to drive.
Given the money, I'd have another Puma, an FRP, and a DS3 Racing.
Suzuki Supercarry/Bedford Rascal. Sliding door.
K11 Nissan Micra 1.0 steel wheels/unpainted trim.
Citroen AX GT.
Honda Beat.
Audi A2.
Performance wise, anything high revving, normally aspirated.
I think any Performance version of a Hot Hatch will be Classic.
Look at how many Escort RS Turbos where about in the 90s along with the Cosworths and now they are a rare car.
The R32 Golf, standard GTIs will hold there value.
If we are allowed a new car which I think will be Classic, its the Focus ST Estate as not many people are going to buy the Estate compared to the Hatch.
Alfa 156, good early ones already getting rare, and a lot of the ones you do see these days sport dubious 'enhancements'
In 15 years time a decent one will be rare as hens teeth. Decent looking car that drives well (for a FWD). Definite future classic.
Garage Dweller got it right with the Peugeot 406 coupe. One of the most beautiful cars of its time and relatively rare. A dead cert future classic IMO.
How about the land rover defender or
Citroen BX GTi?
Alfa 159 - For its beauty and the chances that running examples will be very, very rare
Another I had one, Puma voter....sooo much fun, although a little rusty in places.
Original merc Slk - seriously cheap at the moment
Some one please help me explain to my wife we need a focus st estate, to replace our Volvo v50 dull diesel burner
Its the same car but with too much power powering and steering the front wheels?
BMW 320si from 2006 (the world touring car holomolgation special)
Alfa 159
no - 156 = the 159 is just a muscled-up copy without the rear door handles - not as much of a classic. 156 was the best looking alfa for a while, if they had just been reliable BMW would have been in trouble as the value was loads better and they drove better.
Fiat 500 obviously.
Smart car and the Smart roadster.
It pains me to mention a BMW, but the Z8?
Lotus Elise?
That DS3 above.
Audi A2?
RS2, Mk1 Rs4 and Rs6 avants
Prius.
First mainstream hybrid. They are going to take dedication to keep on the road. So in 20-30 years time, there are not going to be many around.
Hopefully Audi TTs and BMW Z3s will be forgotten one day.
That's what people used to say about Capris and Escorts.
almost any of the "first cars"
ie cars that folk remember fondly as their first cars and have an emotional attachment to.
Clios , Saxos , Corsas , Novas , micras , chicquichentos , puntos etc etc ......
Elise? Bang on.
2CV SHOULD be there but I don't think it ever really did outside a few people.
elise is already a classic - tried to buy one recently.
even an old mk1 fetches silly money for milage and condition
seems to have only ever been an enthusiasts car.
You're all doing it wrong!
Seeing as the MG-B is the definitive classic car in the UK, I guess a classic car is a performance 2 seater that is orders of magnitude slower than a base model family 5 door of the same era.
Now, go!

I hope it isn't the definitive classic - I was astonished when I went in a mates at how nasty/poor it was compared to my dad's Alfa 1750 GTV of the same vintage.
both already classics
Quick shout for The Mokka
All Land/Range Rovers.
Alfa 156 GTA Sportwagon
Any Pre GM Saab

They made about 8 and a half million of them, so more than a few people 'got it' 🙂
And it's got probably the most active social scene and support network around the world of any vehicle going, bar the Defender.
Stone cold classic, the most intelligent use of space and materials ever.
As with many older Citroens, we've not caught up yet.
Simple, minimalist genius, so much fun to drive.
Can't see how the new FIAT 500 is in any way a classic.
The original, yes. The new one is a pastiche, typical of the shocking lack of imagination prevalent in new car design.
The old one looked how it did because that was the best way to package the 27 bits and pieces that made it go.
The new one looks like it does because some tosser in a black polo neck was told by the marketing deparment to make a Panda they could sell for nearly twice the price.
This is a classic, and has been for a while:

The new 500 is about as classic as a new Beetle or BMW MINI.

You, greyhaired boy at the back, what is YOUR name?

Anyone that's interested, I believe there is a FJ40 or FJ45 nestled out the back of the Pillars Of Hercules farm/cafe in Falkland, Fife looking in desperate need of a new home.
This was a year or so ago mind you.

Prefer the Alfa GT to the Brera 'cos you can get a mountain bike through the boot door, whereas you can get f*** all through the Brera's rear door:
Going to buy a Brera or GT sometime in the nearish future. I have decided whichever I get, I will budget for a bespoke bike carrying modification. Brought this up on an Alfa site and was "burned" as a Heritic. Thinking of some sort of rear boot modification or slide outs. There are super strong magnet roof mounts that can be used as well.
some tosser in a black polo neck
that'll be the same tosser that designed the mini and alfa mito then.
I like the 500 - plus it's a lot better looking than the Panda.
Mitsubishi Evo's are already semi classics in that they don't really depreciate anymore.
My brother has an EVO VIII which he will probably sell for more than he paid for it
Subaru Impreza 22Bs are already their. Try getting one for less than £25k
Any future classic will have to have been made in relatively low volumes and be distinct enough to be easily recognised in 20 years time.
The V8 M5's are getting to the point where they aren't getting any cheaper and good examples will start to appreciate.
Honda Integra Type R's are in the same bracket but try finding a straight one.

He designed the BMW MINI as well? Are you sure?
If he did, that's even worse!
The most morally and intellectually bankrupt piece of car design I can think of.
And the most cynical marketing campaign too.
The Mito's quite nice, but again, it's a Punto in a nice frock.
