It’s time for a nastyface-off, reckon DezB has chops in that dept 🤩 Give us a real vizog-melter, and none of that slow noodle 😉

Maybe more soul than funk? I never know how to decide these things. Killer track, anyway

I would post videos, but keep getting logged out. Too funky in here! Basically anything by:

The Meters
Cymande
Lee Dorsey
Rufus Thomas
Mickey and the Soul Generation
Poets of Rhythm
Sly Stone
Uptown Funk Empire

Plus a bunch of stuff that’s already been posted. Love the funk, early stuff and some newer bands any way. Lots of the later stuff from the original era is too close to disco and disco can **** off. Basically funk without the funk.

I hope this hasn't been posted, as it takes ages for videos to refresh on my page. Some classic funk from Dundee!
Average White Band

I'm happy with both.

What do you consider to be the difference between funk and soul? I have my own criteria, but I'm interested to hear other opinions.

Hard to define in words but easy to hear? Its something about the bassline and the rhythm?

looking up definitions took me into a world of music technicality that I do not understand!

Soul can be funky, funk can be soulful. There is a large soul/disco/funk crossover. Probably best to just post up what you think is funk for us to enjoy!

Funk Makes nastyface

Soul Makes sweetface

Or to put it another way - one shakes your booty through your nostrils, while the other breaks your heart through your ears.

Yeah, like talk to the hand... 🤷‍♂️

A modern interpretation, because lets face it Funk just ain't for the 70's right? Nahhhh... theres plenty of modern artists funking down:

I don't know anything about music, except that I love it. I came across this guy about 3 weeks ago... He's fantastic! I hope you enjoy it!

Funk is on the one. Emphasis on the first in the bar and repetitive bass rhythms. Soul and funk cross over a lot. Disco is more like P Funk. Not as good in my opinion, too clean and loses that dirty groove. Whatever floats your boat though, it’s all good. I love the low down New Orleans funk sound

Had my music on shuffle in the car and while technically not funk, if we’re arguing over dictionary definitions, I think it’s worthy of inclusion

Having a few soul/funny chats tonight.

Shocked the above and 'loving you' with all the birds were by the same artist. I like both, I know, sad, but I'd never have known they were the same artist
