My favourites were the ones in Prague, shortly after the fall of the communist powers. The ancient, metal framed roller coaster seemed to be held together by rope and odd scraps of wood. Some of which were so randomly placed that you'd get scalped if you were taller than six foot and lifted your head up at the wrong time. The whaltzer was also a laugh. I stepped off it at the end of the ride and upon which the floor collapsed beneath me and I found myself staring at my girlfriends feet.

I grew up when the 'holiday' was the social club trip to Blackpool, mainly went late 60 / early 70s so old enough to go roaming with any mates who were on the trip. I remember the Cat & Mouse ride ? and the Log Flune as being the ultimate then. But, I would love todo the 'wooden roller rides' Ive seenon TV, supposedly awesome..

We went to ligh****er valley on saturday.
Had forgotten how good "The Ultimate" was, much more violent than pretty much any other rollercoaster I have EVER been on. Like a mile and a half of wild mouse!
Other faves include Gwazi at Busch Gardens and Hulk in universal studios.

Best one I've been on is Apollo's Chariot at Busch Gardens. And the Black Hole (RIP) at Alton Towers of course.

Wild mouse Blackpool pleasure beach. It feels like it will come off the tracks, you think you're going to smash your head into girders, it's mentalist. Love it. The jumanji of rides, or something...

I have a love of wooden rollercoaster's ever since i worked at pleasureland in southport. There's just something about the shonkiness of them as you go round, ahhhh just thinking about it bring's back memories of 'walking the track' first thing in the morning hammering the missing screw's back into the rail's. Used to love going the cyclone when we used to put one of the car's on backwards. 😀

izakimak - RIP to Cyclone. pulled down by that ****!

i always loved how there was that kink part way up its lift hill. Designed by Charles Paige - same chap who did the reprofiled Big Dipper and Grand National rides at Blackpool (and the long lost Texas Tornado in Morcombe)

Tis also a shame that Alton Towers once had a Schwarzkopf Jet Star 2 and 3 (known as the Black Hole and the Alton Beast/The New Beast) both have been removed - they where great rides!

Wild mouse

Isn't it just 'The Mouse'? I also like Valhalla at Blackpool - not scary roller-coaster, but a great sensory experience.

I was most scared at the local funfair as a 10 year old when I got on 'The Eggs' - a ferris wheel where the cars spin upsidedown. And the more you beg the guys to stop spinning them as they pass, the more they do it. I was literally crying at the end.

Still - I went back on the next year, and the next, and the next and loved it to bits! We also used to hang around under it waiting for money to fall out of passengers' pockets 🙂

Spiderman at Universal Studios Florida was in my opinion the overall best ride in Florida but also agree with all of the above that I have ridden, they are all great rides, also The Kraken at Sea World, The Hulk, The Mummy, Aerosmith Rock n Roller Coaster, Tower of Terror, The Dodgems - always a laugh, The ski jump at the ice themed water park in Florida, can't remember the proper name, a near vertical water slide that according to the clock at the bottom my svelt 16 stones was doing 52mph - keep those legs together peeps otherwise you will get funny shaped hairy earrings 😉

I stand corrected 🙂

I DO remember once being on it and doing a 'look, no hands' just as it went over a drop. My knees *JUST* managed to lock into the safety bar as I was shooting out of the carriage.

Needless to say I held on *VERY* tightly for the rest of the ride :-O

😉 I've been looking at the videos - none seem to do it justice imho. The modern rides can give a buzz, but they're kinda clinical. Grand National at Blackpool is also pretty darn fine

Air at alton towers is a great ride, while it might not be as 'thrilling' as some of the other more extreme ones, the feeling of flying (if you can be arsed to queue up to get on the front) is ****in awesome imho

i like air at alton towers - not coz it's fast and scary but coz of the feeling like you are flying. get on the front seat and you don't see much of the tracks etc.

i do like the discription of Blackpools Wild Mouse - you enter via a small entrance, then the Mouse chews you up and spits you out an equally small exit. Built at a time when they said - if its too extreme, folk dont have to ride it.

were as now, if its too extreme they tone it down (see the reprofiled first drop of the Big One cos it was too violent for alot of people)

Theres a "mouse" at Flamingo land that is the same ride. German made with insane turns.
There is also a similar ride in Animal Kingdom florida, but not quite as brutal.

Busch gardens is the best place on the planet for roller coaster fans, never seen so many good ones in one place.
Universal Studios is the best if you want a combination of coaster/visual experience.
