We have sky tv, but is it possible to connect a freesat box and use it in another room, whilst still subscribing to sky tv ?

you'll need to run another cable from the dish to the other room. You may need to upgrade your LNB to allow for this, you may not - mine had a quad LNB when fitted so adding new cables was not a problem
if you have freesat+, i.e. recording, you'll need to run two cables, or use a twin cable like the sky people do
