hi,
i need some anti virus stuff for my laptop but just spent my last £25 getting it fixed so i needs to be free anyone got any recomendations?
cheers tom
AGV Free additon has always worked well for me.
Avast
AVG here too. Been using it for about 6 years...
Usual suspects, AVG, Avast, Avira. I use Avast.
Also put Threatfire on there, and run the occasional Spyware scan with Malwarebytes and Superantispyware.
I haven't had a problem in years with this sort of setup.
I suppose the best antivirus advice though is be sensible about what sites you visit and what you click on.
Avast for virus and Lavasoft for spyware
I'd avoid AVG if I were you. They started out pretty well but their products have slowly got more and more bloated and they're notoriously slow to provide updates for critical malware.
I'd recommend Avast or Microsoft's security essentials. I run the latter.

I know recommending a Microsoft product as a security device probably bucks the usual trend but it really is a very good product, there is no paid version so they're no trying to sell you anything as an upgrade and the security community are starting to accept that it does the job well indeed. Although as Rich says, your browsing habits probably count more towards your exposure.
Microsoft Security Essentials or Avast is good
Go with MSE purely because there is no registration hassle (assuming your copy of windows is licensed)
AVG slowed my computer down. Avast works perfectly, except for the guy shouting about the updates!
right click avast on the taskbar and turn him off.
+1 Avast after AVG became slow
Avast much better than AVG
I use Panda Cloud Antivirus at home.
eth3er - Memberright click avast on the taskbar and turn him off.
Ta very much! 😀
Used to use Avast, now use Microsoft Security Essentials, both seem good.
Another vote for AVG, slow?? hardly notice it running if at all, saying that i don't do much on my pc except surfing the web and a link for my iphone.
i've used AVG and AVG in the past, now I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials
We used AVG until daughters laptop got a virus. Now use avast pro.
