Usual suspects, AVG, Avast, Avira. I use Avast.

Also put Threatfire on there, and run the occasional Spyware scan with Malwarebytes and Superantispyware.

I haven't had a problem in years with this sort of setup.

I suppose the best antivirus advice though is be sensible about what sites you visit and what you click on.

I'd avoid AVG if I were you. They started out pretty well but their products have slowly got more and more bloated and they're notoriously slow to provide updates for critical malware.

I'd recommend Avast or Microsoft's security essentials. I run the latter.

I know recommending a Microsoft product as a security device probably bucks the usual trend but it really is a very good product, there is no paid version so they're no trying to sell you anything as an upgrade and the security community are starting to accept that it does the job well indeed. Although as Rich says, your browsing habits probably count more towards your exposure.

Microsoft Security Essentials or Avast is good

Go with MSE purely because there is no registration hassle (assuming your copy of windows is licensed)

AVG slowed my computer down. Avast works perfectly, except for the guy shouting about the updates!

Used to use Avast, now use Microsoft Security Essentials, both seem good.
