That was fixed this afternoon Scotroutes.

Oh no it wasn't!!

/* end pantomime voice

(Unless, of course, it's not supposed to open a dialogue box like it used to?)

Ok third time lucky. It' a galaxy s7 on android latest update using the Samsung internet tab. That' the third time I've included that info. Oh and that apostrophe on I've worked because it was more than one letter after the apostrophe.

Keep reporting what you like and don’t like. We have a list

Right, where is the list, what's the bug tracker? You guys reading a forum post is a rubbish system for this sort of stuff.

I hope at this point nobody is going to admit there was a test version of this because its nowhere near ready for deployment.

Also what's coming up in the next update?

Edit as you can see can't even see what I have quoted, android/chrome

The list is accessible by those who need to access it and we can add to it as we read posts on here or spot them during our own testing.

I do hope there are a lot of fixes coming and a lot of good new features

I'm not privy to what's coming next but I know that the old forum prevented new features.  This was discussed earlier.  The old software was a rat's nest of code making maintenance a nightmare, and most "new features" plug-ins require a version of BBpress that was written since the turn of the Millennium.

I've seen requested changes implemented inside of a couple of hours today that would've taken weeks on the previous codebase.  Whilst the UX could be better currently, that's a paradigm shift for the forum.

Earlier today,  my tablet briefly lost interwebular connection, and I saw the old, downloaded page. For a moment, I felt a brief frisson of delight that things would work again.

Alas,  the connection returned, and this cluster reappeared.

It's mainly spoiled by people who can't quote properly

All of a sudden it becomes clear why so many were opposed to modernising the forum.

ETA: aopologies for the above; what a cluster ****!

Are you not embarrassed?

I must be one of those people.

I mean, it's not like I can quote properly on EVERY OTHER ****ING FORUM ON THE INTERNET.

But no, carry on, well done.

How? Unicode not-bracket lookalikes?

unicode 'o' and 'i' - I'm not doing hardcore unicode hacking though, they're copied and pasted from character map. I thought we'd done this before when I evaded the swear filter with ΙBTL 😉 (to save you checking it's a unicode 'I' there).

I’m not privy to what’s coming next but I know that the old forum prevented new features. This was discussed earlier. The old software was a rat’s nest of code making maintenance a nightmare, and most “new features” plug-ins require a version of BBpress that was written since the turn of the Millennium.

None of that is news - as I posted earlier, moving to an up to date system is well overdue, and something I'd certainly been pushing for for years if not decades. All the customisation was just stupid when features were readily available in modern forum software. And yes I do understand why it wasn't an easy process and one that had been put off for so long - in a way I'm surprised that we will actually get the
new forum we were promised in about 2006 (and we can finally put those jokes to bed), I didn't think I'd live to see it! I still don't understand why it had to be implemented like this though. I daresay in a year, if not a few months this changeover will have mostly been forgotten, but it is offputting to members (and subscribers) to have to go through what I can only describe as alpha testing (it's nowhere near the standard I'd even release to beta), and doubtless it will live on as an STW meme.

Jeez, it's almost like some people are getting a little turned on with their repetitive whinging. If I could do a rolling eyes emoticon, it would be here...

Oh, hold on.... Phwoooaaarrrr!

Actually... 😉

unicode ‘o’ and ‘i’

Aha, yes.  And I do remember, I was overthinking it.

yes I do understand why it wasn’t an easy process and one that had been put off for so long

Mark explained earlier in this thread.  A succession of devs doing their own thing.  I have similar at work, I have an off-corporate network which has been open to all our engineers, the config for the Internet router alone is like 14 pages.

I still don’t understand why it had to be implemented like this though

Well, you and me both, but here we are.  Speculating, I suspect there may have been an element of "just do it" by this point.

What sort of fresh hell is this?

What do all the buttons do? I can't get anything to happen when i press the exploding pill one.

Also, can we get a "Dominate" button for kinksters?

I tried to report your post stumpy so at least someone can see those issues. It' still the same this morning. Some of the previous posters just think you are making things up when giving constructive criticism. Typing a response is as you say a right pain in the arse!

Just noticed another issue- your database port is corrupt.

I was flicking back up the the Halfords Eagle PSA thread on the Bike forum and was struck by my last comment on it. Half of what’s there I never said - you’ve concatenated records.  I’m assuming that it’s not just two comments on one thread that’s affected.

Maybe even JFDI?

Still posting the html when using quote tags and copying across.

IS there a way to search for my own activity on threads like there used to be ?

Don’t think so. Didn’t realise how much I used forum activity to keep tabs on threads.

I am sure they wouldn’t have removed this functionality without having something new and improved to replace it. As that would just be ridiculous, and we know that charge cannot be levelled at this update.

As above, that was pretty much the most important functionality of the forum. Or, at the very least, have the "Replies Created" section link to the original thread in some way.

Some might call it an improvement, but when I am not logged in I only see a line saying “Advertisment” with no ad. Do you still get revenue like this? 😉

As a result of the Great Hack the forum had to restart from the ground up. Nobody died. Maybe it would be better to do the same again as opposed to trying to shoehorn the old one in.

I think I've got Paste to work on my phone.

Copy as per normal, place the cursor in the reply box, hit the Clear Formatting button, then Paste as normal..

Of course the Reply box is still hanging off the left of the screen so it's still a pain to type anything.

Ah bugger. I'll need to do a second Clear Formatting once the Paste is done

Yes Drac.  If the DB is corrupted (see above) there might be no choice. You can't have posts/text attributed to the wrong person.

I'm saying there might not be an option.

And, TBH, the search function was so bad it's questionable how useful the previous 8.9 years of history was 🙂

I'm all for progress, and realise this isn't a money making commercial forum, but to an IT luddite the functionality has taken a significant backwards step.  I hope this is still a work in progress...
