Off the back of the Joey Barton thread.....
Is this actually legal? If it isn't in a contract then can they legally hold back on wages if they feel he spoke out of turn against their club. Surely whatever they come out and say its a matter of opinion that it was offensive to either party. Joey could claim it is the truth etc but the club could take offence.
I reckon it wont be too long until this kind of thing ends up in a courtroom.
It'll be in their contracts - I am sure their astronomical wages mean there are special circumstances allowing such clauses to be put in.
in contracts but limited to 2 weeks by PFA
standard disciplinary procedure I think, has been since Adam was a lad.
your normal workplace disciplinary procedures won't/can't work when the players are also the assets.
1 verbal > 1 written > you're fired? on a multi-million pound asset?
IIRC - and i could be talking rubbish - footballers' contracts aren't like the employment contracts you or I have. They are more akin to service contracts. If they were like the usual employment contract they could use employment laws to give notice and move for free once they had served it.
