I’d actually be happy to see Eddie Howe get it, if he does get the boot.

Eddie Howe is going nowhere (apart from England when Southgate gets bored of it). Obviously it won't happen but I'm hoping romanticism gets the better of them and Gerrard gets the job. 😀

Makes me think there is someone lined up already

Perhaps the announcement is make it clear the position is available so contenders should hold off on extending current deals.

I also think he will end up at Real in 18 months time if not sooner.

but I’m hoping romanticism gets the better of them and Gerrard gets the job

They could swap Salah to Saudi for Gerrard to return...

I am so gutted he is doing it in a managed way - I was eagerly awaiting a sacking at some point so I could use the line 'Kop Flop Klopp gets Chop after Drop'

I’m not sure he’d deal that well with the (even bigger) egos at a club like Real Madrid. I think he’s better suited to a club with a bit of a chip on its shoulder, so to speak.

Gernan national team for a bit? They’re poor though.

As long as Mbappe doesn't join, are there any damaging egos at the club at the moment, the big stars in the current team seem pretty good characters, Bellingham, Vinicius, Rodrygo etc I think Klop could work his prefered tactics really well with the core of the current Madrid squad.

If he does win it, I reckon he'd stay and become the first manager to coach a championship side in the champions league.

Before he signed his current deal he was talking about retiring for a while and heading back to Germany and enjoying life, i was amazed he signed such a long deal after that, so no real surprise he's looking at maybe taking a break from football for a while, i just don't see Klopp disappearing to another club any time soon, maybe back in Germany with Dortmund when he's recharged.

Four "proper" trophies in eight years and two of those won on penalties. Would Liverpool fans be happy with that from Klopp's replacement?

No, you can't have Keiran McKenna!

The trophy count doesn't tell you how closely he ran Man City for years who have one of the best managers ever and endless resources.  It's like using an argument that Darren Fletcher was a better footballer than Steven Gerrard because he won more trophies.

I'm no fan of Liverpool, but trophies tell part of the story in this day and age, Liverpool have been run well, are well within the FFP, unlike a few clubs around them, and have a decent squad just now that's pretty lean in terms of costly players sitting in the stands or veterans eeking out their last year or two. Whoever takes over in the summer will have a pretty good squad to start with, with funds available and by the looks of it, CL football and more probably, next year we might see Man City with a bit of a cull if FFP hits, ManU having to sell to buy and so on, so higher chances of winning more.

Yep. Ever supported a team on a cup run, or going for a championship? Imagine the fun you can have 'only' being in 4 European finals, for starters. It could well be more than four trophies by the end of this season.
Not sure why winning on penalties is an issue; pretty sure a European Cup win still counts on pens.

Doesn’t matter how you win it. Winning the champions league on penalties can be a truly wondrous thing. There surely can’t be many things more joyous than this… 😃

Yeah the trophies count is silly. Just ask Harry Kane 😝

Reality is they’ve been the only side to push City. It’d have been a procession for seven years without Klopp, no wonder he’s spent.

Also agree Liverpool look in good shape for the next manager. However, things change very quickly dont they - Salah future, VVD and Trent contracts, did some of the new players sign more because of Klopp, will young players like Jones be afforded the same opportunities? United after Fergie is how not to do it.

Apparently he's running out of energy?

If he sat down a bit more rather than spending the time chasing the lino and 4th up and down I reckon he'd do another 3 seasons.

You do have to admire the studied nonchalance

Having been going to games all my life, it was only a couple of years ago, at an FA Cup game, that it I actually witnessed a penalty shoot out live for the first time* actually in the ground. They only ever happen in the odd big cup game or internationals. Never in league games

It’s absolutely horrible! The tension is unbearable!

No way does watching it on telly remotely do it justice

Stuart Pierce said the walk from the half way is the loneliest walk you’ll ever take, and he would know. You need balls like water melons for penalty shoot outs

* yes it was when we went out to Middlesbrough

It was bad enough playing for the school - god knows what the walk feels like as a pro with the crowd, TV and internet etc!

BIG ANGE IS TAKEN!  STEP AWAY FROM THE HIGH LINE, NOW!!!

In reality,  I don't think Ange is proven yet,  can't see Liverpool wanting him.

The well run comment is interesting,  yes,  very much yes in many ways (football) but...fenway sports is as fragile as Glazier Inc and as committed.

Whilst it does do away with a distraction in the very close race for 2nd in the Championship I can't help feeling that game isn't the greatest confidence booster. 38 v 2 attempts and we lose 2-1

It's all gone perfectly:
1) First time in 13 years we've even reached this round.
2) Concentrate on the league
3) Avoids distracting cup run
4) Avoids exhausting replays
5) Keeps premiership clubs away from McKenna, as he can't even beat Maidstone!

Maidstone were well drilled, disciplined, hard working, stuck to their plan and carried it out brilliantly, a fine effort by the manager and the players. Despite the result, I hope they get themselves a big money draw in the next round, because they earned it.

Absolutely, can't say they didn't deserve it and their two goals were well worked and well taken. Their keeper also wasn't his money, especially once he got over the initial jitters, some of our shots were a bit soft but he played a blinder

Probably emphasises how tough management is nowadays. Although Clough and Bill Shankly might disagre as they weren't multi millionaires.
