[Closed] Following a startling revelation - recommend me a desk mug

[#8165107]

I've worked for the same company for a long time, in that time we've been in three different buildings as the company has grown. Right from the very start we've never been allowed hot drinks at our desks.

Anyway yesterday we got the amazing life changing news that hot drinks are now allowed as long as its in a mug with a cover - so an insulated type thing rather than a tommee tippee mug 🙂

So I now need a desk mug, recommendations please, just normal mug size. Bike themed would be good, or anything interesting could be considered. I'm seeing a lot of dull mugage on desks today.

I worked in Japan a long time ago, and one of my treasured mementos was one of these - the staff went on a jolly to HK, and brought me back this - mug eventually broke a few years back, but still have the lid somewhere..

£6 from Tesco. It's big and red and keeps coffee warm for ages.

Recommended.

It's not exactly ground-breaking in terms of design, but Starbucks do a ceramic mug with a lid - bit pricey at £8.50 IMO....

I use that Thermos one at work also. Served me well for years.

They (and similar) crop up in TK Maxx occasionally, for not much money.

Yeh I had a look at the thermos ones on amazon. Some people seem to be struggling with the concept of 'insulated mug with lid'.

Yes they are a nice company to work for.

and

I've worked for the same company for a long time

Is there (was there) a reason? I'd cease to function pretty quick without a caffeine drip......

TK Maxx are a good cheap source for this sort of thing as Cougar said.

The Mrs has one of those thermos ones and loves it. It does keep the brew warm for ages though so it would mean you might not be able to drink it for an hour after making it.

Why couldn't you have a hot drink at your desk? Don't understand. Unless you work in a nursery or is a Childminder.

Simples: buy a VW Golf or Passat that has still got the emissions cheating software. Get VW to fix the emissions cheat for free and hey presto you get an insulated mug with a lid as a gift! (Also a packet of Tic Tacs, but that's just a bonus.)

no idea, but I do work in an office with a few hundred people, for a company with many thousands of office based staff, all with computers and no rules about lids on hot drinks cups....

That's pretty much it from what I remember, think some one spilled a cuppa on a pc at some point.

We have a heavily subsidized canteen and cafe and its not something that's ever bothered me. If I want a copy I can nip out to the atrium and have one there.

That's the rule, it doesn't bother me and it doesn't bother anyone else.

The alpkit kelvin pretty much fits the bill - ordered. Thanks.

You won't be disappointed with the kelvin from Alpkit, brilliant mug and satisfying to hold in the hand whilst keeping the contents warm for ages.

Squirrels don't drink sake.

What sort of draconian doesn't let you drink a hot drink at your desk?

Do you have to put your hand up when you need to go pee pee?

Of course, is there an office environment that allows people to just get up and wander free range? That would be like anarchy surely.

You want a Thermos Bubba, saves trips back and forth to the kitchen/coffee machine.

And for scale...

The company my dad used to work for were really up on H&S stuff, after a couple of contractors blew themselves up while welding with incorrect ventilation.

They were only allowed cups/mugs with lids. I don't think it was an issue for while sitting at their desk, because my dad's mug had a screw off lid, but when walking between coffee machine and desk.

They also got told off for not holding the handrail while using the stairs.

That situation and the idiocy behind only allowing you to have a hot drink if you have a lid is crying out for the use of a Tommee Tippee mug.

my company only relented on the no hot drinks at desks policy about a year or so ago, after 15 years of being around. since they allowed it (in cups with lids too), we've had to replace around 50 keyboards that have had hot tea or coffee spilt into them (i run the IT support for a 700 desk insurance call centre, which is partially staffed at most times by absolute morons basically)...

anyway, i use an avex contigo autoseal thingy. keeps stuff hot (or cold), and does not spill as it does what the name says...
