[#11104733]

My daughter and her friends are looking for flat in Edinburgh for uni next year (August). One of them has found one on the website of a property maintenance company / letting agent based in London. No address or landline number for the agent, just a mobile and email. All that’s on the website is a load of photos but no written details. The rent is a few hundred pounds below the going rate. Corgi logo but Corgi stopped in 2009. Gas Safe logo but no trace on Gas Safe search. It couldn’t stink more if it tried but her mates are hassling her. I’ve told her not to part with a single penny. What else can I tell her to dissuade her?!

Yeah exactly. Why has a bloke in London got flats in Edinburgh but nowhere else?!

Check the details on the Scottish landlord register to see if he's legit?

The reason why is because it does exist.

As above never part with money without seeing the flat.

Things to look out for are inconsistencies in photos, odd email addresses such as aol, he'll want a copy of your ID (for future scams) and send you a copy of his for assurance, he'll not be able to travel all that way without the deposit, he'll hang up phone calls as he's very busy (doing more research if he thinks he's hooked you)

I was nearly got the ID they sent me was from a Dr from the department of pathology at Cambridge. I eventually got in contact with the Dr who had handed over £800. You can see how good they are.

My folks rwnt a flat in edinburgh out.

Its in newington 2 minutes walk to the meadows and 15 from the main uni building. Its a nice flat for 4 people. And they'll be looking to fill for next uni year. Not sure how it compares to market rate.

Want me to ping the details?

He is on that, same name and address as on the tenancy agreement.

I won’t be.

Thank you, that’s very kind. I wouldn’t mind taking a look if it’s no bother.

How many of them are looking to rent?
I might be moving out of my place around summer and would be looking to rent it out.
2 bedrooms, nicely renovated inside and a roof terrace. About 2 mins walk from the main uni buildings.

Sod them, a flat with beer on tap would suit me just fine.

Four of them unfortunately.

When you say a roof terrace, do you mean an unofficial one where you climb out of a window onto the flat roof of the health food shop below kinda thing?
