Drop of fairy liquid in spray bottle full of water. Spray the water on, lay the tape on, squeegee the water out. You can reposition it, and it should go on with no bubbles. Pop bubbles with a pin / stanley knife if you do get any.

Best to do it on a good warm day / heat things up a little with a hair-drier to make the tape more flexible

prob a daft thought, but can you warm the tape in the microwave pre applying?

microwave only works on H2O molecules, so assuming there's no water in helitape, it wont help.

Hairdryer. Warm the tape and the bumper a bit and it makes it a lot more flexible and stretchy to handle awkward curves. Worked well for applying to the downtube of my carbon DH bike that curves in 3 planes (think like a pringle).

You want to keep the tape so it's pretty warm, you'll notice the change in it's flexibility, makes quite a difference.

You can then warm it as you apply it, and keep it warm whilst you smooth it down. Extra pair of hands helps here. If you warm it all first it'll cool as you apply it.

Yeah - heating with a hairdryer made it really easy to apply some protection tape to the downtube of my bike.

I like the idea of applying while wet in future though...

What car is it? Have you looked for one of those boot sill protectors, that is either a stick on metal or rubber plate??
Might be more durable...

Knee cap the Spaniels and take money out of their daily food kitty for the damage so far.

thanks all. it's for an older model BMW (E39) and can't find a sill protector that fits - most seem to be for recent models. Would rather a more durable guard if poss

hora - according to Mrs A, it's the car's fault, not the dogs!

If Mrs Robdob did that she'd be walking home, with a battered handbag I just reversed over several times.
Thankfully she looks after things as much as me, so it wouldn't happen. ๐Ÿ™‚
