Actually, it might have been The Police at Queens Hall in Leeds a few months earlier in '81. My best friend's sister wanted us to go with her, I wasn't up for it being a Punk, but fancied her, so.

Steeleye Span, Lacock Folk Festival, forty years ago last year. Next gig was Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Trilogy Tour, St David's Hall, Cardiff 1972. Steeleye played Chippenham Folk Festival last year for the 40th anniversary, and I met Maddy Prior afterwards and had my copies of Below The Salt on original vinyl and CD signed. Great gig.

Sparklehorse in Bristol in 1998.
I saw Sparklehorse a couple of times, was that the Fleece gig when Mark came on pissed, and got progressively more shitfaced as the gig went on? Gemma Hayes was support, IIRC, and I saw her at the Fleece two or three weeks ago. Lovely girl, great singer.

Can't quite remember, either this lot,

Either way would have been at Rock City some time in the late 80s.

Skunk Anansie - Glasgow Barrowlands 1996. The lead singer Skin burst out a side door as we were queuing before the gig and almost wiped me out in the process....never even got an apology. ๐Ÿ™„

Stereophonics were the first support band on and failed to liven the crowd up.

Best, The Beach Boys, Wembley Stadium 1976 they had the whole stadium singing Good Vibrations, Barbara Anne etc.
Worst, Elton John, Wembley Stadium 1976 he followed the Beach Boys and the stadium started to empty!

Should also add Dr Feelgood @ The Kursaal Southend were brilliant.

As a shoegazing sixth former, i saw Ride at Derby assembly rooms, supported by a rather lively support act called "The Verve".

Talk about upstaged; in response, Andy Bell (He who went on to strum for Oasis) snapped 3 strings on his guitar during Ride's first song...

I was once at a free festival at Windsor Great Park in, erm, the early seventies - ish. I think. Probably '72. Or maybe '73....

Anyway, I distinctly remember that we were all waiting for The Pink Fairies to come on stage. We waited and waited only to be told that they weren't going to appear because they were too stoned to play.

Strangely, nobody seemed to mind... ๐Ÿ™‚

Such a long time ago... early 70s

will have been around 72 or 73 at Leeds Uni

Not sure which was first ...either

Rick Wakeman and the English Rock Ensemble ( honest )

or

Nils Lofgren , Support was a stunning Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

but it could have been one of many as LEeds Uni was fantastic back then for bands

I almost certainly watched a few ageing British Beat groups gig when I was a nipper in the early 70s..

Then maybe Anthrax supported by Killer Dwarfs in '87 or perhaps Iron Maiden around the same time
