Cock to the power of helmet
Brilliant.
My vote is for 'Saving Private Ryan' - amazing first fifteen minutes then a bore-fest.
By the way, this is my first-ever opinionated post so please don't be too harsh.

Chapkaping, I doubt many peoples would actually think their favorite movie was actually the greatest movie ever made.

One of my favorite film is "Grosse point blank", there no way it's ever going to be classed as the greatest movie ever and even I would totally agree, and I know some ppl will hate it, but I still love the story/actors/sound track, hense it one of my favorites...

And it does tend to be a certain type of person who thinks its the greatest movie ever made.

Go on then - what sort of person?

It still hurts Camo. It really does. 😉

surprised nobody has mentioned inception yet considering the mixed reaction it got!

Another one that benefited from a couple of beers and turning the brain off halfway through. By the time it started disappearing up its own arse I was just barely clinging onto the plot anyway (see: beers) so gave up and just ran with it. Made it all seem much better.

Nothing I said, I hope? 😳 I like your style and I don't care for Saving Private Ryan either.

Wise words.

My favourite films include Highlander and Escape from New York, f'r instance.

I should hope so too Bex, a clear & honest opinion with reasoned backing! Pah! That not what STW needs! 😉

No worries camo16. I'm a big girl and I can take it. And yes, I'm very aware of how that statement may be misconstrued.

Very true, I stand corrected. My fave film is Repo Man and I would concede that Citizen Kane is probably a bit "greater".

Mastiles - Not saying. You'd only take it as a personal criticism if you said it was your favourite.

If anyone even considers saying a bad word about Zoolander I'm going to blow up the internetz.

Only saying because I just turned on the TV and saw Maury Ballstein in some god awful made for channel 5 matinee.

No I am genuinely curious to see if I fit the stereotype you have for the sort of person who likes it. It wouldn't bother me in the slightest as I don't need anyone's approval to have the opinions I have 😉

It's not too late for you to take back what you said... 😀

I think each post in this thread should be supported with the critics three favourite films, that way we can tell who really has absolutely no taste at all.

Well, I gauge all films on the Point Break scale, if it helps. All the films I dissed ^^^^ score 0.25 to 0.45 on the Point Break scale. Not one of them has Lori Petty in it. 🙁

I judge all films on the presence of a minigun. Minigun = Good. No minigun = bad.

Anyway back on topic
I felt mightily disappointed by Mission Impossible
I thought it might live up to the TV series...

My fave films (today only it will change tomorrow)
Apocalypse Now
Gladiator
Dogma - in fact most films with Salma Hayek get rated quite highly
