At the mo it's 'Bankrobber' for me. But, **** me, what a fantastic band they were.
Tommy Gun
Gates Of The West or Stay Free
Very much depends on what your definition of "obvious" is, but I've always had a soft spot for Train in Vain. IIRC it was knocked out in a couple of hours when someone reaslised they didn't have enough tracks for the album (or something like that anyway)
Pressure Drop (b-side of English Civil War)
Armagideon Time is pretty good.
Don't know how popular it is but 'Police on my back' is f-ing brilliant although 'Train in vain' is great too.
Clampdown was really good live, but sounded crap recorded
Radio Clash, still in my top 3 singles of all time
I'm not sure if it's non-obvious but career opportunities with the kids in it is one of my favourites.
Safe European Home is good too.
Looks like I'm going to be diggin' out the vinyl tomorrow 😐
I quite like
The Leader
and Lose This Skin
and The Card Cheat
and ...
..or Death or Glory
or...
The more I think about it,it would be easier to list the ones I don't like,as above truly funkin grreat band
Death or Glory, Train in Vain, Armagiddeon Time, Capital Radio.
Obvious - London Calling. That bass still gives me goosebumps.
Radio Clash is very good, as are many others.
Lost in the supermarket.
straight to hell
Tommy Gun... was the first track of theirs I heard.
I've got a remix album with about 19 different versions of Bankrobber. Some of them are pretty good 🙂
Jimmy Jazz...
Clash mixes that is. But there's a cover of 'We are the Clash' by Sparks that I'm quite partial too.
Safe European Home
Guns of Brixton
Brand New Cadillac
Armegideon Time
Bored With the USA
Jimmy Jazz
Could go on all night really. Great band.
Bankrobber is your 'non obvious' choice? I get the impression you didn't live in that time.
Anyway,
1)what's my name
2)Guns of Brixton
3)Complete control
Is Rudie Can't Fail obvious?
Complete Control is an outstanding track.
Spanish Bombs
Police n Thieves
White Man in Hammersmith Palais. Or is that too obvious?
Is Rudie Can't Fail obvious?
No, you're in the clear with that. 😉 with me, anyway.
The obvious ones to me would be the minor hits (bankrobber, I fought the law) and the 80s levi ad made hit (should I stay or should I go??) maybe Straight to Hell, I think that might have been a bit of a chart hit, but not sure.
Broadway
I've never ever got bored of any track on this album in 30 years of listening to it and everytime I put it on, I love every track again without exception.

Clash
Rudie Can't fail.
Actually it's about the only Clash song I like
Play to win.
Thanks to this thread I've been up the loft this morning to find all my old vinyl. It didn't just stop at The Clash either,oh no there's 999,SLF,Ruts,Slaughter & the Dogs,Upstarts,Dead Kennedys,Ramones,Devo,Sham 69,UK Subs,Surburban Studs,X-Ray Spex etc.....
Over 300 singles & about 150 albums in all,the wife's just looked at the pile of singles, shook her head & said I'm off out then...
Let the good crackly vinyl times roll 😀
Janie Jones
Safe European home.
Hateful.
Spanish bombs.
da funk
Wait just a minute here. I discover this thread 21 hours after original posting, and no-one - not one person - has offered 'The Magnificent Seven' yet?
There's a heavy emphasis on the London calling album in this thread, and it is indeed a great album - the first of theirs I bought (not counting a limited edition vinyl single of English Civil War which I sold to a school pal who went on to become, and I kid you not, a bankrobber and, unfortunately, a murderer).
Sandanista is less listened to in my collection, but that opening track is a winner.
Beyond that, it has to be 'Overpowered By Funk' from Combat Rock.
No further questions, your Honours.
a)complete control
b) janie jones
c) garageland
d) career opportunities
Complete Control
Janie Jones
Straight to hell
Police and thieves.
Dig out Junior Murvins original of the last one, and 'I fought the law' by the Bobby Fuller 4, great records both.
D.
Any of you heard the track by MIA,that's sampled Straight to Hell? It works really well.
Any of you heard the track by MIA,that's sampled Straight to Hell? It works really well.
I've heard it, it's really horrible. But then I think most of her stuff's a hideous row, so it's not likely a Clash sample's going to win me over.
Paper Planes, it's called, young Dave.
I'd heard it once, a long time ago on the radio, and thought, 'Hmm, yeah, I like that', then I got a Death From Above mix on a free CD last week from a monthly night in Glasgow, and it's been on 'heavy rotation', as the pros say, ever since. Great bassline on it.
In fact, with all due respect, I'm ditching you lot and going for a groove...
MIA is the shiznit.
Her first album, Arular I think it's called, was the best hip-hop record I'd heard in years.
Kala good too, but not enough Diplo productions on it.
Happy that she's had so much success now, very talented lady.
Best hip-hop ? MIA ? WTF ! 🙄
I wonder how many people will talk about MIA's music in 30+ years 😆
anyone else remember tiswas playing tommy gun every week? ah memories 🙂
there's no way I can pick just one Clash song. Lost in the Supermarket, Clash City Rockers & Long Time Jerk .
Does anyone know of or have a Clash bootleg or album from around about the time they were splitting up? Mick Jones wanted to use a lot more sampling & rapping and apparently it's similiar to some of the Blackmarket Clash and 1st BAD album. I would love to hear it.
Rudie Can't Fail for me, or Straight to Hell, or Brand New , or... there's too many.
Me and the lad will listen to London Calling on the way to the swimming baths this morning 😀
