Okay - this has just become a boring ****athon naming the most obscure albums hasn't it?
most of what's listed is pretty mainstream stuff to be honest...you live in cave or something?
EDIT: No but you listen to queensryche, it's close enough to mulleted hermitage to count 😆
The last few haven't.
46, been going to rock/ metal gigs since I was 14 .
the last few have got bands in that have been going since the 80's and early 90's. You obviously just don't listen to the heavier side of stuff 😀
KISS-KISS
W.A.S.P-Live in the raw
Dave lee Roth- Skyscraper
GNR-appetite and gnr lies
Rainbow-Long live rck n roll
W.A.S.P-Live in the raw
good choice!
Wish I had a record player. Most of this stuff is on vinyl, a trip to iTunes maybe in order.
Def Leppard - Hysteria
/ thread
In fact W.A.S.P. anything! Awesome metal band.
Good to see someone else rates "Another Perfect Day" by Motorhead

There are so many, anyone got a USB turntable i can borrow to rip all my old vinyl please? 😆
Can someone explain where heavy metal becomes rock? 😀
fwiw , Led Zep , RATM ,Van Halen,Pantera , Clutch , Kyuss,Faith No More are all on my list.I've forgotten loads.
Pleased to see will haven mentioned, most intense band I've ever seen live. Played non stop for 45 mins at Camden barfly and walked off. Brutal.
Can't believe I forgot;
Lordi - Monsterican Dream, The Arockalypse, Get Heavy
Cathedral - The Carnival Bizarre
Perhaps we need a thread to recommend some new 'metal'... I love getting good new music and am working from home today so can play it loud.
My starter, although not really new is Sixx AM - This is Gonna Hurt - dont be put off by the nikki Sixx inclusion, its better than recent Motley Crue outings, in fact the best thing since Too Fast or Shout at the Devil.
C'mon give me some spotify ideas for the day?
Twisted Sister, You Can't Stop Rock n' Roll
i'm enjoying trying to guess how old everyone is by their choices on this thread 😀
i dont really have any specific favourites but have loads that remind me of times in my life, all good memories.
some new bands emerging out of the UK at the moment for people to check out:
'sylosis' seem like they'd fit the general tastes of most on here (been around for years but finally doing big shows all over the world)
and in no particular order for people to check out:
tesseract
textures
skyharbour
uneven structure
no consequence
visions
red enemy
monuments
periphery
Can someone explain where heavy metal becomes rock?
No but who cares? It's all good.
It's all good.
*has doubts* (I mean Twisted Sister?? 😆 )
Nearest I'd come is Jane's Addiction - Strays.
But then I have got some of the stuff mentioned previously but it ain't metal.
*has doubts* (I mean Twisted Sister?? )
At the time it was a breakthrough album.
They 'supported' Saxon at a festival at Leeds Queens Hall (with Girlschool and Anvil on the bill too I recall). They blew everyone away with their sound because it was so fresh.
(And I am am just bringing more suggestions to the table - it's pointless just repeating ones others have said)
Fair enough. I just remember them as a novelty act.
I just remember them as a novelty act.
I think their image made them appear a bit of a novelty definitely, but 'I am, I'm Me' was a superb sound.
Then Nirvana released 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' and all that glam went out of the window and everyone started to be moody and black.
Twisted Sister, You Can't Stop Rock n' Roll
Jeeeeeeebus. I used to have that album 🙁 Sounded great when you were 13, mind.
I've just realised I forgot to put Nevermore on my list with This Godless Endeavor. Ooh, and Amon Amarth, In Pursuit of Vikings.
And I won’t hear a bad word said about Twisted Sister – they brought us “I Wanna Rock”, “We’re Not Gonna Take It” and “Burn in Hell” (covered in style by Dimmu Borgir).
I’m also quite partial to this song at the moment:
DON’T JUDGE ME!
Jeeeeeeebus. I used to have that album Sounded great when you were 13, mind.
I was 15 when I saw them at that festival - just looked online Supported by Girlschool, Twisted Sister, Anvil Spider, Battleaxe, and Panza Division
I loved Anvil - 'Lips' doing his 'trick' of running a vibrator up and down his bass. 😀 Most amusing as a kid.
At the time I used to DJ at my local youth club - aways opened with 'Hey Mickey' (Toni Basil) ((because my name is Mike)) then run into 'I Am, I'm Me'. Jeebus - I wish I could be a 15 yr old again sometimes.
Oh yes, Eat em and smile, that brings back memories. Good call, DLR was a proper frontman.
Alice cooper - Bilkion Dollar Babies
I liked 1984 - some proper energy in there. Buut the best track they ever did was 'Runnin' With The Devil'
Lots of good old stuff and less good new stuff mentioned.
This ain't bad (video would be frowned upon in less liberal minded places of work):
The neighbours congratulate you on this thread and (probably) particularly enjoyed
and
EDIT OOPs that didn't work, back to the drawing board!
I will try again!!!
Da Motleys, Same Ol Situation off Dr Feelgood..
*wades in late to thread*
Lots of good stuff there, I would like to add, for your considered opinions (and yes some of this isn't really 'metal' exactly)...
Pretty much anything by D-A-D
Yngwie J Malmsteen - Live in Lenningrad
W.A.S.P - The Headless Children
Love/Hate - Blackout In The Red Room
Tigertailz - Bezerk

"There's a hole in the sky
Don't ask me why

Scorpions - Lonesome Crow

the wife walked into me listening to mastodon at an acceptable volume the other day while working - 'you know thats not music...'
How to keep the list down to just a few, here are some and no doubt I will realise I have missed something
Dio - Last in Line

Queensryche - operation Mindcrime
good shout on SIXX AM - much better than anything Vince or Tommy has brought out. Other newer stuff could include Crashdiet, Hardcore Superstar, JettBlack, Danko Jones and Reckless Love. Quite a few others that I have bought Cds of that are excellent but just cant remember their names.
Y&T Earthshaker
Tesla Mechanical Resonance
Montrose Montrose
Iron Maiden + Killers
Hughes Thrall (ok not metal)
Hughes Thrall is a defo rock/metal album in my books and early Y&T is ace.
Snortin Whiskey , Drinkin Cocaine - Pat Travers, only one song but up there!
the wife walked into me listening to mastodon at an acceptable volume the other day while working - 'you know thats not music
My mother once threatened to get out of the car I was driving if I didn't turn Carcass' Buried Dreams off.
My husband also doesn't really share my taste in music, and likes to make up his own lyrics. For example, he insists that the choral bit in Gateways by Dimmu Borgir says, "Peeenis! Peeenis! Hah hah hahahaah! Peeenis! Peeenis!" (About 1 minute in)
Incidentally, that video has everything - fabulous hats, tassles, gurning and a woman who sounds like that Welsh woman from Catatonia.
By the way: Anthing softer than Gun 'n' Roses (Appetite for Destruction, to be specific) is officially "rock" so please amend your selections accordingly
Well, if were going to be pedantic the only proper metal comes from the Midlands.
😀
Quite understandable really.
Well, if were going to be pedantic the only proper metal comes from the Midlands.Understandable really.
No pedantry, just facts 😀
You would be right in the '70s, but after that the rest of the World saw the light and came over to the darkside \m/ \m/
