[#3766845]

Sourcing cars from ebay, auto trader, classifieds etc, what fantasy car collection could you build for £56000. That's 1/100th of the £5600000 Chris Evans spent on his Ferrari 250 California.

Extra points for exclusivity, idiocyncracy and potential for appreciation.

Over to you.

Saab 99 Turbo, Mini Cooper, BMW E30 3 Series, MX-5, original Range Rover, Defender 90, mid-90s Jag XK.

Probably enough for insurance and fair bit of fuel from £56k and I think they cover almost any base you'd ever need.

Not that I wouldn't have the California if I had the spare change!

oneoneone... Good choice, I'd slip a Lancia in if the budget allows, and one of those kit car Stratos' that were on Top Gear a few years back.

Actually probbers a Khamsin but I'd need the change to run it.

Very graceful and pretty IMO:

As with all fantasies there are no penalties for running costs, insurance or impractical or unreliable choices.

So £8k Citroen SMs are in.

Might change the colour and get some d1 wheels on it though...

£150k. Ouch. Nasty colour, but that to me is a real classic car.

£250k gets you a proper S1.

The Citroen SM, now that was a car - top car in French Car Top Trumps. I remember getting excited on seeing them on a three week tour of France when I was 9. The way they came up on their hydraulic was fantastic - I would try and come up with a simile - but I will never better the one I heard from the owner of a v12 Jaguar

starting the engine sounds like 1,000 sewing machines having a simultaneous orgasm

Harry, is the Lagonda actually for sale? Got to be able to fit a 29er wheels on in the back of that. If only u had a garage long enough.

For me, it'd have to be £20k for a decent TVR Griffith for when the sun is shining and £30k for a mint Porsche 993 Careera for when it isn't, or when I want to Cary a bike on the roof.

I'd keep the Prius for family duties.

the car I learned to drive in. I'd spend the rest on breakdown insurance, sill welding and an auto electrician.

This limo^ but I'd have it sprayed gold, so £1.5k purchase price plus say £3k on spray and pimp stuff.

An Elise S1 budget £10k for a mint one.

Ford Capri, £500 for a tatty one, I'd buy some decent tyres and tune the engine up then give a chav a few cans of Stella to bash the body work up a bit, I'd enjoy telling people 'it's done mate' when they ask 'project mate? What colours it going to be?' I'd also start smoking just so I can stub tab ends out of the window onto the body work.

A small van to carry bikes in, possibly have it sign written with a company that doesn't exist.

That's all I need, I'd just waste the rest on a sensible saloon.

You could build a 600 horsepower Ultima GTR? Or a new Lotus S Exige with the new 350 hp V6? You'd have 10-15k to spend on goodies as well.

If you really want some track based insanity, a radical?

The best rover p5b coupe I could find ( with a quick google) £20000
[img] [/img]

If I couldn't get a good one I would have a Citroen DS instead for my practical classic - seems to be £20 000 for a nice one now.

Caterham for lunacy £15 000
Renault aventine for a practical and stylish car £5000

And the rest on a long wheelbase series landrover in safari trim.
