Can't help feeling that could have been Russell. Definitely showing his youth there!

The rain certainly sorts them out, doesn’t it?

Verstappen and Sainz have always been good in the wet and have good cars, but to see Alonso and Hamilton up there show’s their skill.

Verstappen really did hammer everyone.

What happened to Vettel between FP3 and Q1?  Does the car only work on inters (or does Vettel only work on inters of course)?

Fernando 0.6 off verstappen was awesome.. the rest still 1.5s off is still the same as before. Expect business as usual during the race

Expect business as usual during the race

At the front maybe, elsewhere lots of people starting out of position

Yep, I expect Verstappen to go firing off into the distance. The rest of them though...

Depends on the start. Alonso's wink at the camera while saying he's going after MV at the start could make it fun. He's one driver who is unlikely to be intimidated by MAx if he tries it on at the first corner - I'm kind of hoping there is a bit of a first corner shoot out 🙂

Boring race ahead where Alonso spends the whole race trying to stop Hamilton getting past and the arrogant one speeds off into the distance.

Sainz is still at the stage where he will be fairly chuffed with a second place.
Alonso has had enough podiums not to care about second and is, hopefully, more likely to have an all or nothing attempt at a win

OTOH he’s also old enough to consider that he doesn’t have any skin in the championship game. If an opportunity arises he’ll go for it, but can’t see him having a lunge or whatever

Alonso should definitely pull over to let anyone with more sense of entitlement than ability to pass him.

I struggle to think of anyone with more sense of entitlement than Alonso

Head down to Broadway Market in London on a Saturday and throw a stone

If Alonso doesn't attempt to bang tyres in the first few corners I'll be very disappointed

Looking forward to FA nailing MV off the start, MV trying an aggressive move into T1 and getting whatever he puts in back with interest.

Hopefully there's an "all the time, you have to leave Da space" lesson headed Verstappen's way;-)

How many laps within 1.5s was that then? I really hope they don’t mess with these regs too much

Phew that was exciting! Really thought Sainz had a chance there. Great to see Hamilton on the podium, hopefully this helps him get his mojo back

Naaah - Sainz is like Bottas - you could give him x200 laps to get by and there'd always be some excuse as to why it wasn't possible.

It's quite remarkable he is where he is having never won a race.

I always remember Hamo lobbing it down the inside of Raikkonen at monza in '07 from about 30metres back. I just don't feel like sainz has that killer instinct

"He never bothers to wait for the next corner does he?"

2 things, Thing 1 : Look at those cars? aren't they skinny? and those skinny wheels! Thing 2. The McLaren was leagues better than the Ferrari in 2007  and Sainz' really doesn't have that advantage.

Current Indycars are nearly 2m wide also and they have no trouble overtaking.

F1 cars have also been 2m and wider in the past. The cars of the late 80s were 2.1m wide.

I don't think Sainz had a clear path like that to accelerate into in all the laps he was within a second of Verstappen, plus i believe Raikonnen fell off in that race, this years RB has the ability to fight off the ferrari pretty well from what we've seen so far, they do seem pretty evenly matched on some tracks, which is good to see.

Current F1 cars have no problem overtaking either, But Verstappen is driving a faster and better handling car than Sainz, and that's pretty much the start middle and finish of the story. Even with the benefit of DRS giving the ferrari about 15-20kph advantage down the 'straights'

I don't think that makes Sainz a bad driver.

That looks like a very distorted video.

I used to loath Piquet back in the 80s, he came across as an utter * out of the car. Then after a couple of decades I came to respect him a bit more as a driver and figured that maybe I'd been too harsh on him. But, no, he's back to being a * again.

Saint’s problem was his lack of consistency. He was slightly faster than Max in those last laps, but kept losing time through very small mistakes every 3rd lap. This is where Verstappen excels.

I’ve just read what Piquet said about Lewis Hamilton - how can anyone think it’s fine, even in private (and this wasn’t) to talk this?

It’s absolutely unacceptable. He should be banned from the paddock.

I think the Piquet has always basically been a troll - he'd just say offensive things to get people riled up for his own amusement. There are people who think that's funny, to them, anyone who gets offended just needs to lighten up and get a sense of humour. The internet is awash with toxic garbage like that so there's a big audience for that (this is what Donald Trump realized years ago).

I can't imagine that anyone in F1 will want to be seen in public with Piquet. He has ties to the Verstappens but I doubt that Red Bull will want him hanging around as their guest. Shit like that is just a huge distraction that the team managers won't want to have to keep answering questions about.

I think you underestimate how low Horner would stoop to upset Hamilton or Wolff. Piquet is probably on a First Class flight to Silverstone as we speak!

Especially as they've just had to sack their F2 driver Juri Vips for exactly the same thing

I know that Piquet has a long history of saying controversial things, but this is beyond acceptable.

I didnt realise that his daughter is Max’s girlfriend. I know we arent responsible for the stupid things our parents say and do but its all a bit close to home. I wonder if RB have a view on this

What, you mean tell him he has to ditch his girlfriend because of something her dad said?

TBH it must be a constant nightmare for the RB PR team, with both Jos and Nelson knocking about just waiting for either on of them to say something monstrously stupid must be the stuff of nightmares...I'd be willing to bet that a chance to lock at least one of them out of the garage for a weekend would be a relief for everyone.

Mate, her dad said racist shit about lewis, her uncle then posts on instagram, doubling-down on it, saying that it's not offensive because their grandma always called them the n-word when they were little. 🙄 You might expect Kelly to distance herself but no, instead she liked this post using her public instagram profile. It's ****ed up.

No one mentioned Nelson's relationship with Nelson Jr yet?
Nothing to do with crashgate, AIUI he's basically cut him off because he races electric cars. Very odd

Verstappen seems to have done a great job of surrounding himself with bell ends.

Having been brought up by a bell end it's probably where he feels most comfortable.

lol, max himself used the term 'mongol' in public, had it pointed out that it was offensive for more than one reason. His answer "it's not my problem if people get offended". He then uses the word in public again a couple of years later, i.e. his earlier comment wasn't face saving, he's genuinely learnt nothing.

Pricks the lot of them.

Anyway, what are the predictions for the race?

I think all the hype about Merc doing well with a potential win will end up being a podium for George or Lewis at best, with Max and Charles P1/P2.

I would love to see McLaren magic another 1-2 out of nowhere with maybe Gazly or Perez third and Albon getting some big points.
But yes, Verstappen, LeClerc, Russell does seem more likely.
