...but so far I'm disappointed that the 2017 cars look like the 2016 cars but with lower rear wings.
Same here - perhaps they need to shorten the wheelbase.
We'll see what Renault serve up this afternoon.
They'll look better on track I reckon, until they are stuck line astern due to effectively making the tracks narrower with even shorter braking distances
Who'll take me up on a bet that Renault launch with a black and yellow livery, which they'll change to yellow and black before the season (see Zebra thread for the difference).
Oh and it'll have a stub nose, a shark fin, a massively convoluted front wing and look remarkably similar to the Williams and Sauber.

I bet there will be less yellow, but a large dollop of green from BP/Castrol.
Nah, the green will be with the orange on the Mclaren
Renault car unveiling is live streaming from here in 10 mins https://www.renaultsport.com/?lang=en
Just pull the bloody cover off the car...........
Well there's a first - a live F1 launch stream that works!
...oops - nope - stopped at the end of the pitlane! 😀
...and we're off again.
And looking at the colour of the stage there will be a lot of grey on the new car.
I do wish they'd stop B--------ing on about stuff and just show the bloody car.
This is F1 though, wwwwaaaaayyyyyy more talking balls before and after the event that the actual event itself
Prost now!
...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
And twenty five minutes in we're STILL looking at four, receding middle aged guys sat awkwardly on pub stools, no doubt discussing 'kinematics', endlessly repeating 'for sure!' and 'technical challenges...'.
Alain Prost is old enough to remember when new car launches involved a soggy Silverstone circuit in February, with the new car being followed around by the ubiquitous Renault Espace carrying a tow-rope and some men wearing garishly coloured ski jackets.
Twenty-nine minutes.
Whoever decided on these press conferences needs to be taken outside and shot.
This will get the younger fans engaged in F1!

They'll say "who are those old farts and why are they talking shite? Where's the car?"
Finally. Looks exactly like the Sauber, but in yellow/dark grey.
I'm out.

It's neither - it's black AND yellow! 😀
Here's how Formula One car launches should be done.
I've still got the video that ^ was taken from somewhere 😆
All I'm taking from the car launches so far is that they don't look too different in reality, certainly nowhere near as much as was promised, and that the front tyres look to have a very rounded profile compared to the rears. Doesn't fill me with faith that Pirelli have got them right this time 😕

Looks like it may be a matt paint finish from the overhead pic.
Looks like a Jordan.....
They had areas with matt paint last year too. RedBull claim their matt paint gives them a slight aero advantage, sort of like the dimples on a golf ball helping it travel further. Probably a tiny, tiny difference in the windtunnel until it gets dirty or wet but I do like the look of it.
Loved that video PJM1974, thanks for posting! 🙂
Definitely a 10 pinter!
Not pretty.
And FIA should ban the sharkfin before the first race. The others looked sort of OK, but this looks like they're carrying a sheet of MDF back from B&Q.
You have to work quite hard to make something designed to be sleek and aerodynamic look pig ugly.
Step forward F1 designers... 😯 🙄
Sidepods look very wide too compared to the Renault and Sauber.
*Scrolls through pics of Force India*
Oh no...they've done exactly the same to the other side, too.
Somehow, despite assurances to the contrary, we've ended up with cars which resemble a Dimetrodon with it's genitals dangling from the front of it's face.
That Force India has a stepped nose AND a penis AND a stupid fin.
This is a major, major balls-up for the sport. Imagine being a sponsor and having your brand associated with some of these cars? Unless you were selling some kind of Hollywood slash-film, then you'd be feeling pretty sick right now.
I do hope they let them put moar elements on the front wing for the 2018 season

😆
the-muffin-man - MemberThe fat tyres bolted on to last seasons cars looked much better..
Yes I'm hoping that what we're seeing are just show tyres rather than the real deal.

The good news is there will be plenty of advertising space available on that massive fin! 🙂
They just made the cars fatter so the tyres are more in proportion. I'm still not over Natalie Pinkhams shoes.. now thats aero for you
That's approaching the Caterham ant eater nose for goppingness, combined with over fancy aero from the 2008 era.
Hope Brawn can convince the teams that a different direction is needed, then the fia comes on board to revise the rules all the way down the various formulae so there's a consistent progression toward wherever f1 ends up. Oh and hope that liberty come up with an affordable (legal) non sky way of watching the racing that ensues.
I'm hoping Brawn will be involved enough with making the rules to insert a few loopholes only the very clever will spot (IIRC he managed to check the double diffuser was legal at some rules meeting without giving the game away).
Agreed, go ground effect and under body aero and calm down the over egged front and rear wings. Allow for a driver controlled drag reduction system ala f duct and heresy here but manual stick shift and clutch to make life harder in the cockpit.
Sauber hits the track - I'll admit it looks better in daylight...

F1 has quite literally missed the boat, I give it no more than 5 years.
The America's Cup however, is where the fast action highly accessible and well televised popular vote is going to go, they seem to have looked at how F1 has gone wrong and countered each area.

I'll wager fewer than 1% of F1's lost viewers will go to watch the Americas Cup. Apples:oranges.
America's Cup!
Nah - I'd much rather watch Hamilton's Mercedes boat, even if it's a sinking ship.
Looks like Merc are doing their launch in the right order -
12:10 360° Silver Arrow Unveil
14:40 Toto Wolff Q&A
15:45 #LH44 Q&A
16:25 Tech Briefing
18:30 #VB77 Q&A
Show us the car, then do all the PR spiel. Feel sorry for BOTTAS though - he'll be left talking to a handful of keen journos & a couple of cleaners, I bet the free biscuits will all be gone too (except the pink wafers).
ETA - That America's cup article - looks like they've realised that it wasn't working and so have decided that the way to make it better is to have a big change of the rules and make everyone build new boats, but one Team (NZ/Ferrari) don't want to play by the same rules as everyone else... totally different to F1 then.
