On the descent from Tinker's Tower into Jackson Bridge (Meal Hill?) there is a cable which was obviously once buried but is now exposed for much of the way. Anyone know what it is?

there was one on the SDW near Devils Dyke for a few years - was about an inch across.

Gradually became more and more exposed, started fraying and it looked like their were about 40 smaller wires inside the outer case.

There's a big telecoms mast nearby and I assumed it was a throwback to when that was on a wired connection - any transmission masts nearby?

Transmission masts have wired connections, the transmitted data has to go somewhere

I thought it was all fibre optic or microwave out of town and to the top of the hill these days?

Transmitted Data goes out from the aerial it's the received data that may use a cable. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Yeah I've wondered what that was when I'm hopping and skipping down there.

There is a comms tower at the top.
