[#562311]

Clearly not as exciting as what I removed from my ear this morning, but on Saturday I cruised over to High Wycombe and collected a milling machine 😀

Took 3 of us to topple it into the back of the beemer, but I had to single handedly move it to the shed when I got home, up about 100m of sloping garden with steps 😕

The 135kg machine fortunately stripped down into fairly manageable pieces pretty easily, and after an hour or so with some petrol and a paint brush to remove all of the packing grease, she's ready to go 🙂

Next step is to change the lead screws to ball screws, and fit stepper motors to fully CNC it.

Can't wait to cut my first bit of metal 8)

This will hopefully move Turboferret Industries from casting to injection moulding in the next few months!

Cheers, Rich

I hang my head in shame, yes, I have a BMW, in fact, 2, one with 4 wheels, and another with 2 - I know I should be ashamed of this 🙁

In my defence, the car only cost me £200, and goes really nicely. I try and confuse other road users with occasional indicator usage, clearly something which they don't expect from such vehicles.

theflatboy - do you have to buy EU certified bananas with a particular bend radius for them to be compatible with your banana transportation device?

Cheers, Rich

well that's what i thought - i couldn't believe that all bananas would have uniform bend that would fit the guard. tests on 5 or 6 different samples of different sizes have been met with 100% compatibility so far!

as pictured above, the stalk end goes at the bottom right, and the bananas fit perfectly! 😆

I bought a blowtorch. Then burnt myself on the damned thing trying to do plumbing.

Just been told by a professional plumber that I should go and work for him. Apparently I spent so much time doing such a simple job that I would have made him a fortune from a customer.

I'm not sure I should feel complimented or insulted. At least the outside tap now works.

The thread title would be more apt with the word "exciting" deleted

zedstead, now that is a piece of kit to be proud of, but couldn't they have thrown in something better than a 1970's anglepoise to light the job?

Zed,

Nice mill, the ironic thing about my purchase, is that a 2nd hand Bridgeport wouldn't have been much more expensive, given the number of small engineering shops going out of business, but I don't have the space for a proper bit of kit 🙁

Shed will be pretty full of kit once I'm fully sorted, with simple injection moulding equipment too, so the key will be keeping tidy!

My mill will be primarily used for making injection moulding moulds, but will inevitably utilised for making lots of bike parts too I'm sure 😀

Oh, I'm delighted to hear about the banana compatibility 🙂

Cheers, Rich

I went to scan and bought a 1TB hard drive, two of those network over mains adaptors to replace the ridiculously crap microsoft wireless adaptor (these work great!), some cycling gloves and a lycra shirt for my son and some beer. Ooh, and since Monday was also the weekend cos I was off, I bought a variety of timber/paint/varnish and used them to renovate the spare room.
