Trying to book the family summer hols. Kids are 8 and 5, and love camping, but I'd prefer not to have to lug and errect all the accommodation.

So recommendations for these types of places. Initial thoughts are Brittany or Galicia, but owt is possible.

Lets here it.

We've stayed in a Eurocamp 2 bed caravan in the Dordongne in France. Was fantastic, loads to do in that area, althout it's a bit of a drive. You can always stay in F1 hotels on the way down if you need to break your journey - basic, but cheap as chips.

Stayed at Eurocamp/keycamp 'Internacional de Calonge' in northern spain a few times.

Great place with loads to do (some great riding trails along the coast too).

If you're not too concerned about beaches, the El Escorial (in the mountains near Madrid) campsite is pretty well setup and has cabins etc. Not sure about tents for hire, though.

sure

Le Bugue is a nice town, with cafe's bars etc. Plus the site is pretty central for a lot of nice towns and cities and attractions

There is also site is Sarlat, which isn't really that far away.

Dordogne is an absolutely stunning part of France as well.

Avoid the Siblu site at St Brevin les Pins, not bad just not great! Siblu site in La Palmyre was loads better. First time we went to Brittany with the kids 8,6 and 2 we went to Guilvenec ,the campsite is now run by Camping Yelloh, the kids absolutely loved it . Another place we have been is Duinrell in the Netherlands it was ace as well.

Just a little point, I once stayed at a keycamp in the South of France.

The following year I booked direct with the site, got a much nicer caravan at half the price!

Find a nice site - look at their own website!

This is true and I've done it myself. Only down side was that the kids missed out on all the organised stuff.

We stayed at Village Le Serignan Plage, on the French Med coast last year. It was great, we a had a very nice cabin very close to the beach. we booked directly with the site owners Yelloh, the Yelloh cabins we saw were in nicer locations than the other company's cabins on the site. If I was staying in France again I would definatley book direct with Yelloh.

On the way home we stayed in the Loire Valley for a few days, this was nice but I preferred the south coast.

Camping le Chatelet at St Cast in Brittany is pretty damn good for families, all the facilities and two great beaches in walking distance, plus there is great riding on the route de sentiers (a coastal path) www.lechatelet.com. Only half an hours drive from St. Malo

Great beach walking distance here: De la Yole

Big site though, mostly Scandinavian - not such a bad thing... Cheap flights to Montpelier, actually had a day out spectating the tour too.

Also really enjoyed Interlaken with Eurocamp one year, sits right under the Matterhorn.

Mentioned earlier Grand Metarie in Carnac is great with nice facilities although I prefer Les Menhirs which is nearer the town and beach. Carnac itself is nice enough, think Cornwall rather than Corfu.

Bit further down you have places like St Jean Du Monts and La Rochelle more chance of good weather down there.

Le vieux port.

Brilliant campsite, 8 swimming pools, flumes, easy access to beach, great surfing.

Good day trips to pyrenees, 1.5 hrs, white water rafting, biking etc

Book direct or with key camp!

Set in big pine forest so a bit like centre parcs

Ranolien campsite websiteEurocamp Ranolien

Stayed at Ranolien 2 years running, near Perros Guirec in Brittany via Haven and Keycamp when I was younger with my parents. Must've been around 1992 and 1993.

Mrs Mugsy, Micro and Mini Mugsy and I styed there for about 4 nghts this August as well on our cycle tour trips and cylce day of N Brittany. (Perros Guirec to Aber'Wrach with bits of car, and bits of car relaying).

Much to recommend the Pink Granite Coast near Perros Guirec. The camp site is pretty fantastic too.

I've stayed here a few times.

Vendee Campsite

Far enough from the beach to be quiet, but 15-20 minutes away from a huge beach. There's even reasonable mountain biking around the lake, and an organised MTB marathon in the middle of August nearby (which I've never got round to doing).

Always taken our own accommodation, but the tents (especially the lodge tents) and mobile homes look good. Staff speak good English, no problem to book direct. About 4 hours drive from St Malo, along mostly toll free dual carriageways.
