[Closed] Estate agent rant: are the stereotypes ever not true?

I inherited a small house when my mum died a few years ago and for one reason and another can't live there, but equally don't want to sell it. So, I rent it out. I'm telling you this so you don't think I'm some sort of loaded scumbag landlord. Anyway, on with the rant. My current tenant, who is a friend, is moving out at the end of August. I'm not around to deal with re-letting it so I've instructed an estate agent to take care of everything. My current tenant told me that a chap has been round to see it, loved it, and offered six months rent in advance to secure the property. I spoke to this chap and he confirmed, but said the estate agent had told him the owner (i.e. me) wasn't interested in his offer. Now, in reality, I heard nothing about this from the agent at all. In fact, I just had a voicemail from them saying no-one had expressed interest yet, but there's three more viewings booked for next week. WTF!?

I've not got much to add except a warning for anyone in Scotland not to use McEwan Fraser under any circumstances. I paid them a lot of money to not really bother their arses to sell my flat and they ended up being one of the most lazy and dishonest (in my opinion of course) companies I've ever experienced.

When it came to renting out the flat instead I did it myself and it was [i]reasonably[/i] straightforward. It wouldn't be an option if I didn't live pretty close to the flat though.
