Hi

I need a restaurant in Edinburgh, that is quite near the castle, ideally on the North side, which is reasonably priced, good quality, and will have availability for a table for 8-10 on this coming Friday evening. Am flexible with regard to what type of food we go for.

Does anyone have any first hand experience I can have the benefit of on this one, have never been to Edinburgh before.

Thanks

Steve

There is so much choice it's hard to recommend just anything for 8-10 people. The restaurants near to the castle are in the old town, which is south of the castle. They are to be found on the Royal Mile, George IV bridge, Victoria Street and the Grassmarket.

There is nothing directly north of the castle, everything is down the mound and then either on George Street or in the west end. Getting up and down the mound could be a consideration depending who is in your party and how you are getting about.

Are you looking for something near to where you are staying or meeting? If so, where is it that you are staying/meeting?

EDIT: I'd recommend getting it booked ASAP if it's for this Friday

Sorry I cannot help with dinner restaurants but I have had fab meals at places recommended on here, di giorgio over in stockbridge is now my go to place, breakfast at kilimanjaro by the uni, a South African cafe on the queensferry rd. Good luck a few Edinburgh residents on here.

A few restaurants that will probably cater for most tastes:

Old Town:
Vittoria on the Bridge (Italian)
Howies
The Scotch Whisky Experience (vast choice of Whisky as you'd expect)

George Street Area:
Browns (chain)
Cote Brassiere (chain)
Tigerlilly

I'd give the Scotch Whisky Experience a go  https://www.scotchwhiskyexperience.co.uk/private-events/informal-group-dining

Food was good as I remember and plenty of Whisky for afters

Nearest castle is witchery which is probably neither available or affordable

Working down you have:

Ondine, The Outsider,Villager etc all on George iV bridge

Angels with Bagpipes, Mariachi and all the places down Victoria St would be closest. Curry up at Greyfriars via Khatmandu

Very near the castle but on the South side one to avoid is Maisonbloo but nearby a roll from Oink if your starving should hit the spot

Cannonball - reasonably priced given the location, and doesn't get any close to the castle than this...

Owner typically floating about doing the 'congenial host' - well worth a chat, some interesting stories about the building

Another vote for Khatmandu - spot on for a curry.

7 of us went to Magna in Maitland Street. Hungarian, so not your usual grub. The street food they did was very good. Made a change from the usual Italian or Indian.
