Wrong on both counts.

Do you really think the Pickles' bins thing is anything more than a blip compared to the Eds disaster then?

An absurd pandering to class warriors on the left

how? You lot were always telling us it was an egalitarian cross section of society who took part.
It is BS argument that class is an issue in this. The rich and wealthy throw it out [ disingenuously]to avoid discussing the real issue which is that most folk find fox hunting abhorrent.
I am not sure that the majority of Tory voters actually support it tbh.

Actually, I think you'll find that most people really couldn't give a flying **** about foxhunting or any other animal welfare issue, as long as they're able to get their £1.99 bumper pack of turkey twizzlers - let alone be politically motivated enough to support any party on the basis of their policies on the issue, or think that the (ineffectual) ban was anything but a huge waste of money and parliamentary time 😐

Now, if you would like to discuss an animal welfare issue that most people do find utterly abhorrent, then take a look at religious slaughter of animals (Halal and Kosher) and tell me why Labour, if they really were motivated by anything other than "class war", did absolutely jack all about it?

Is it because Tony Blair secretly owned a string of Kosher Kebab houses in Prestwich?

I think you'll find that there are an awful lot of people who are blissfully ignorant of that and a similar amount who don't care as long as they get their doner kebab on a Friday night.

The moslem community also respresents a sizeable Labour vote so there is no way they are going to upset them.

Principals in today's politics are only followed (and ditched) depending on popularity and votes.

At the risk of going off on a tangent, can anyone explain how Spain is allowed to continue with the barbaric slaughter of bulls for sport?

Do you actually know anything about this, or just what you (mis)read in the Daily Fail?

All Muslims vote Labour then? What about Jews?

Well I never. You learn something new everyday, don't you?

Who do Buddhists vote for?

Yes

I've worked in a slaughterhouse, have seen it done close as you like, and formed my own opinion on how humane non-stunned slaughter is 😕

and your next question?

So, what's yer problem then?

(Other than the obvious; being a narrow-minded bigot, of course...)

What, exactly, is bigoted, about believing that slaughtering without stunning exposes the animal to an unnecessarily greater level of stress and pain than the alternative, mon petit Napoleon?

C'mon - what makes me a bigot?

Erm, the fact that you're a bigot? 😕

You advocate chasing a wild animal to the point of exhaustion, then ripped apart by a pack of baying hounds, and you want anyone to take you seriously over the slaughter of animals in the UK for food?

'Ooh, don't worry about what I do, look at what those nasty Muslims and Jews are up to!!!'

Total hypocrite. 🙄

Well, the big difference there of course mon petit, is the fact that, in many circumstances, the alternative method of control is less humane* than the hunt... an accusation that, from experience, I can guarantee cannot be leveled against religious slaughter

(* and over the years I've used every single legal method of fox control, so speak from experience on the issue, that from a humanity and efficacy basis, in upland areas of the UK, I would choose hunting over the alternative methods 80% of the time)

Tell me, Napoleon... exactly what experience do you have of slaughter methods, or indeed of fox control, or is your knowledge on the issues involved entirely picked from the pages of socialist worker?
😉

I've witnessed a number of Halal slaughters, and jolly well have not seen the kind of suffering of the animals that equates to being chased to exhaustion, in sheer terror probably, then ripped to pieces by a pack of hounds.

Tell me, Napoleon

Consider yerself told, Attila...

(Oh, and have a bit of a read up on Halal slaughter and stunning. You might be quite surprised...)

Oh blimey! It's all going off!

Don't take much, does it Binners? 😉

Meanwhile, in a Pimlico flat paid for by Mater and Pater...

The kebabs at my favouritest place are all halal Fred. I suppose I could ask them to put a stop to that. I'm sure they won't mind.

I miss my Friday lunchtime mixed kebabs 🙁

The International Fund for Animal Welfare commissioned an Ipsos Mori poll last summer that found strong cross-party support for maintaining the ban, with more Conservative supporters backing the act than opposing it (62% v 33%). Overall, 75% of the British public do not want foxhunting to be made legal again, it showed.

A YouGov poll carried out for the Protecting Animals in Democracy (PAD) campaign published at the weekend revealed that animal welfare issues such as hunting and animal experimentation are deemed to be an important election issue for 41% of the British public. The same poll found that only 21% believing that there is very little animal cruelty in Britain today. "This is the first time that the enormous political significance of animal welfare issues has come to light," said Dr Dan Lyons, head of campaigns at PAD and an honorary research fellow in politics at the University of Sheffield, said: "It's a clear warning to the parties that support for cruel practices like hunting could prove politically disastrous."

just to keep you frothing and ignoring the facts its from the Guardian so obviously part of the class war that oppresses a tenanted worker like yourself 😀

I await with interest you halal/kosher research

Yeah me too - I thought he was trying to Godwin the thread. On balance seeing where it's gone since, I think it might have been the humane thing.

I prefer Halal kebabs to Kosher ones.

This is based on extensive scientific investigations.
