I'm selling some fishing equipment on eBay. Guy offered some money for it, I'm happy to let the auction run. Email conversation went like this - start at bottom.
Dear lutza59,How funny - if you want me too I can help you round up your toys and put them pack in your pram for you.

Mate, to be honest, I think you're very stupid and you have the mind of a 3 year old, you continue bullshitting me over here that you're not a rip of merchant and bla bla, I don't believe those shitty lies like "I put the pole on for £0.99 because if that's what it sold for that's what I'm happy to receive", I'll never buy that shit mate, I wasn't born yesterday to be fooled by a stupid **** like you, if you say you would be happy to receive 1 pound if that is what it would be sold for instead of receiving 80 pounds for it that a big lie my friend, even my little boy wouldn't believe that. If you were an honest person you would have said fair and square from the beginning that you want more than 80 pounds for it, but instead you give me this poor bullshit like the item is for collection or clearing your shed, don't think you are really gonna sell it for something under 80, but if you do sell it for a lower price that means you really are a stupid arrogant person.
I myself wouldn't like to come over to a stupid arrogant **** like you and buy something.

Well I do apologise if that sounds "kind of dodgy" to you. As you will read from my previous email I stated that I would be "suprised" if it reached £50, bearing in mind I know how many people are watching it. I'm not a rip of merchant and I speak the truth. I put the pole on for £0.99 because if that's what it sold for that's what I'm happy to receive. I don't beleive someone should pay over the odds for something. I'm not selling this to try and make a profit - I'm simply clearing out the shed of old and unused equipment.
I didn't particulary like the tone of your last email and the implication that I would do something dodgy. For this reason please do place any further bids on this item as I will refuse to sell to you. This item is for collection only and I do not want you or your poor attitutde around my house.

Well that sounds kind of dodgy for me if you say you don't believe it will make the 50 pounds mark but you still want the auction to run and someone will end up buying a bargain, that means you either want more than 80 pounds for it or you'll just end the auction if you don't get the right price, I don't believe you will let the auction run and prefer to sell it for 50 let's say, if someone doesn't offer more, and instead refuse my 80 pounds offer.

Hi
Many thanks for your interest and offer on the Pole. I think that is a generous offer but I'm going to let the auction run. Please do keep an eye on it though as I'll be surprised if it even makes the £50 mark. So whoever wins should find themself with a bargain hoepfully.
Thanks again
Tony

Hello,
I am willing to pay 80 pounds for the pole and accessories having in mind it is used and the spare parts are cracked.
- lutza59
ebayer sticking to the rules .... .
thats a rare one . whats his id so i can deal with him in future.
probably wants the protection ebay affords him.
Odd post. Who's supposed to be the good guy and the bad guy?
how much did it go for in the end?
I really hope it went for 99p.
I don't get it.
A: Pole for sale 0,99p.
B: I'll give you 50 quid.
A: Piss of you nutter!
🙁
I'm not sure I understand it either ?
Which one are you ?
If you're the seller why didnt you sell to him for £80 ?
(You can add a "buyitnow" and stay within the rules if you want to)
Email him back saying you'll let him have it for £90 and post his response up here.
RM.
The sport of fishing does attract a lot of idiots, folk that can't really string a sentence together etc.
And you realise you misspelt 'to' in the final email? Kinda let all the air out of the argument really....
😉
That email contains classic STW retorting 😆
Thanks for sharing.
I'm happy to let the auction run with no reserve but should you want to offer a Buy it now price please do ask as the worst I can do is say no.
Why say this then tell someone who makes an offer that you're going to let it run?
BTW it's sitting t £2.50
Which one are you ?
If I had to guess I'd say teadrinker is probably teadrinker1977.
I'm the seller. I'm slowly learning the art of retorting from STW.
I didn't want to accept £80 from him because I don't think it's worth it. Call me mad but I just can't do it to someone.
Isn't there a rule against advertising eBay auctions outside the final 12hr period?
You're mad.
DrP

It just says they can ask, it doesn't say I'm going to accept.

True.
If you have any questions please do ask. The pole cost me £250 and I'm happy to let the auction run with no reserve but should you want to offer a Buy it now price please do ask as the worst I can do is say no. Please bid with confidence.
You invited offers in the Ebay description and then reply in a totally different manner in the reply to the offer.
I can understand why the guys miffed at you.
If someone offer a chunk over the expected price to end a sale, its usually some sort of scam, I tend to just ignore them, not even worth replying.
Although I got tired of ebay a long time ago anyway, can't be bothered with it any more.
What's the other blokes username on here? He sounds really STW 😀
tell him to sling his hook
Very odd :p I can see why the wannabe buyer is a bit confused by your attitude but no need for the abuse/accusations. Probably would have just been easier for you to reply that you're sticking to eBay's rules and letting it run rather than say you want less than someone's willing to pay (there must be a Nigerian version of eBay if that's how you want to get rid of stuff).
i listed a wacom tablet last week and somebody offered me £80 and would collect monday, i just said i was away (true) and would let the auction run. he got it for £65. i couldn't give a toss really as the MrSmith comfort fund made over £500 from 10 items i had taking up too much space in cupboards/drawers that i hadn't used in years.
life is too short to get into discussions with cretins.

This, I add a note at the bottom of all of mine saying I will not auctions early cos A) it's the rules B)nearly always ends up like the above. Almost certainly he would have kicked up a fuss. Did you have official BIN option, or a "Offer me some money nudge nudge".
What an odd situation.
Fair play for sticking to the rules, but ebay fail on the part of the bidder. If you want to pay £80 for it then bid £80 - that's the whole point of an auction.
So would you accept a BIN offer for less than £50 as that would mean you didn't think you were ripping somebody off?
Doffs cap at Patriotpro...however the OP is carping on a bit about a rod he thinks he will get atrout £50 for.Mind you it is the magic of Ebay, I bet he is perched on the end of his sofa, waiting to net a buyer.

No not really, the whole point of an auction is to bid in stages hoping it doesn't reach or go beyond what your willing to pay.

Yes!
The influence of this place is astounding.
Having a go at some Pikey because he wants to float the idea of an £80 BIN bid is sinking to new depths.

Not ebay. It's effectively a sealed bid auction, or it's meant to be.
Fisherman in, being a bit of a childish fool shocker... 😉
Yeah but you can see the bids going up and decide to top up or stop.
meh! why was my posted deleted?
Can you lot stop carping on about this now please
Folk are weird.
I sell a bit of music on the side. I accepted a lower than i had advertised offer for a couple of records.
Yesterday the buyer contacted me to say he received them ok, MINT condition as described, quite happy, BUT (here we go i thought) he thought one was only WORTH £8, not the £10 HE offered and paid me!!
Bonkers.

You don't need to bid in stages on eBay though.
If he bids £80 manually, and nobody else bids against him, he will only pay 99p to win it.
Can you lot stop carping on about this now please
It's giving me a haddock.
I don't get why he didnt plaice a bid, just for the halibut.
As fishy as it sounds yes.So would you accept a BIN offer for less than £50 as that would mean you didn't think you were ripping somebody off?
You should have taken the bait and accepted his offer.
Either that or invited him round to batter him.
Tell him to sling his hook.......... oh wait, he can't can't 🙁
It's giving me a haddock.
you're too tench.
For Cod's sake!! Is this going to be another one of those crappy pun threads?
