eBay car buying advice

The seller has 4 identical cars available all with 60k miles on. Suspicious? Well, they come with a 60k mile warranty. So plausible that that’s when they want to move them on. And if they are moving them on it makes sense for the mileage to be plausible otherwise why not just continue to clock it for another 2 years?

because they haven’t been clocking it in the traditional sense, it’ll be a mileage blocker. If it was a taxi (and no reason to doubt that) they can shave ‘some mileage off’ with a mileage blocker by fitting it for a set period each week like mornings or monday - Thursday etc. but they have to show some mileage, can’t show 10k per annum and expect HMRC to buy it. There’s only so much that can be lost before it would look odd elsewhere. Can’t put 4 sets of tyres through the books when you’ve only done 30k for example. It’ll be a balancing act.

All that said, if the price is right and you go in eyes open then crack on.
An eBay car is no different to any other car purchase really. There’ll be great cars, great sellers, great deals and also shite cars, shite sellers and shite deals. There are scammers on every platform, it’s just a case of being aware.

The place I bought it from is a dealer that sells commercial vehicles on behalf of finance companies who repossess them. So I got a 6 month "warranty" and 24hr drive away insurance and tax and the dealer statory rights. Two very pleasant people.

The cars were taxis in London hence the 6 monthly MOT, and leased by a company rather than individual. The one advertised is pretty tidy, clean and tight. No rattles, no crashy suspension, I'm pleased. Currently in Hopwood Services charging up.

Judging by the look of the seats and the low millage for a taxi, it might ligitimate taxi.

Turn safe search off and search for 'pull out couch' and 'fake taxi' 🤣

**** me, what the **** is going on with the motorway network?

M42 closed, M5 closed, M50 closed, M48 bridge closed.  The usual traffic + accident on the way there, massive road closures on the way back with diversions everywhere.  Mrs went down the M50 which was closed, I went down the M5 instead - also closed.  I just got in 12.5h after leaving...

Have bought many cars from Ebay. Golden rule for me is judge the person selling as much as the car. Ideal for me is a private sale from someone who just wants a slightly better price than trade in offered to them.

How cheap? Genuinely interested

£9k, about £2.5k less than market. Also a couple of k less than an equivalent ICE car.

It's also still a taxi til the end of the month! I wonder if I can use bus lanes 🙂
