[#11757929]

To me this is the equivalent to wearing a towel out whlst shopping..

Honestly, the number of people i've seen (granted, mainly in Brighton) wearing a HUUUUGE dry-robe towelling thing as a 'normal coat' is increasing day by day!!
And nope, these aren't people who've just been for a sea swim.
This is just using a dry-robe as a fashionable coat, I guess....

At what point did this bit of utility dry wear become fashionable???

idongeddit...

You can blame that blonde one off of Countryfile.

She was cutting about in a camouflage pattern one a couple of weeks ago on t'tellybox.

Brilliant, I'll drag mine out and I can be fashionable for the first time in at least a decade.

Exactly what I was thinking. I initially thought she was about to do a piece on outdoor swimming 😆

So it’s like a dressing gown, a towel and a cagoule had dirty sex and this was what happened. I’m saying nothing as I went out wearing an action blanket the other day. In my head I looked like Clint Eastwood. In reality I looked like an idiot. Albeit a warm and cosy idiot

Yep Hive and Brighton seafront is Dryrobe central. Especially featured with an angry looking dog towing the owner along.
Bit like a reinvented lower quality Buffalo Super 6 shirt. (No Pertex)

THIS.... THIS IS THE LOOK.....

I guess it's the ideal shoplifting garment. You could hide 3 basketballs and a sledge under there.

DrP

EDIT - or if you're really let yourself go during lockdown.... gained a few stone, and had the same PJs on for 3 months... just pop the dry-robe on and all sins are covered...

Maybe there are 3 short people under there, trying to avoid a Covid fine?

She does not look happy about wearing one. It looks like something one of those American Gravy Seals would wear. Something to mop up all the sweat caused by walking slowly

Surf lifesaving clubbies in the South West have been using them for probably 7-8 years, before they were picked up by British triathlon etc. As our club, Holywell Bay SLSC, decamped off the beach after every Saturday club day we used to have visitors standing and staring as multiple groups of Jawa’s of different sizes trudged over the dunes.
Fourth Element’s Storm Poncho, designed by a friend, is also very popular down West.

I've been lusting after one of these for camping. They are ridiculously expensive and now post Brexit probably even worse

I've been known to stop in the shop on the way home from a wet ride, wearing my biocore changing robe thing, with trackies on though. I'm not a monster.

I have worn mine aims and about. But only when on the way back from swimming.
They are far too big to wear out of you plan on getting changed under it. If it is fitting then it's going to be useless for getting changed. Plus you can't wear 10 layers under it which you need at the moment

This I approve of...
Like when I pop to MaccyD's wearing muddy MTB shorts and lycra bibs.

I wouldn't go..."oh, what to wear to ASDA..I know, I'll pop a pair of bibs on, some knee pads, and my clippy-cloppy shoes too for full effect..."..

😀 I was about to post that they've become popular in Swansea with people who think they live in Gower!

It has proved to be amazing for after muddy night rides too. Take top layers off before getting in the car and wear it on the way home.

Maybe not but if they have been for a swim at any point in the past, or plan to go, or know someone who has then they want you to know all about it.

How do you know if someone is an open water swimmer? BECAUSE THEY TELL THE WHOLE WORLD ABOUT IT!!!
This is especially true if they have been swimming when it is slightly cold. They yearn for people to say how crazy/brave/bonkers they are.

Can't wait til folk start to wear Oodies out and about. Similar things, but more onesie/pyjama-ish. Would go nicely with a pair of fluffy slippers in Lild.

I'll admit to having worn mine in cafes and once, I think, in a shop. Always on the way back from swimming though. I think the point has already been made that if it's big enough to dry/change yourself under then it's too big to be worn as casual clothing. Too bloody warm too.

Quite a contrast to all those crazy, but shy, mountain bikers who buy Go Pros to make a gnarly edit of themselves trundling round a forest and then post them on YouTube, Facebook and other social media.

I watched an episode of Rick Stein's Cornwall series last night. He met a woman who was supposed to be a regular sea swimmer, and they went for a dip, a sunny day last October. Rick walked into the sea, dived in and swam off. She tentatively inched her way in, and stood there clutching her elbows. It was fairly obvious that she wasn't a regular sea swimmer and possibly had never been in water cooler than her bath, by her reaction.

They're just the new poncho. I think it's a good thing, it's about time us cold semi-naked poncho wearers came out of the bushes in the parks and were accepted in society for what we are. They're also quite warm

i should be prime candidate for one. surf, kayak, swim in rivers, own a T5...

i absolutely refuse. I've been using the same manky old towel for surfing about a decade and i can get out of my winter wetsuit and be fully clothed in about 2 mins flat.

Hot Hot Hot

Not me, but that's how I feel when wearing my Nuclear Races* Dry robe... toasty !! Standing at the side of a footy pitch on a Sunday morning watching the lad run the mid-field. Poacher's pocket on the inside for my flask, jobs a goodun. (Not needed for his rugby training as I help out)

The only downside is they take up sooo much room when not in use

*got a free race when I bought my one.

I've seen a few folks wearing them at a Friday night rugby match, seem ideal stood outside on a stand in winter weather. Only used ours for to'ing and fro'ing from swimming, the beach or the kids from rugby - godsend when we could do rugby activities and changing rooms closed, keep them warm after and car cleaner too. Wear what you like, they're very practical!

I was going to make a snide comment, but then I remembered I went to the corner shop for some milk the other day, in my slippers. ( I was otherwise appropriatley dressed) The shame.

Dryrobe compression sack

A what now?! a 30quid bag to store your coat in?
I thought I was being over the top spending 25quid on a hooded towel!
(to be fair it is black so I can masquerade as a monk when I'm wearing it...)

Seems a good idea but not for me. I sea swam last week, went to change after and had forgotten my dry shorts. Had to drive home with a towel wrapped round my waist, quick dash from car to home no-one saw.

I think decathlon sell those dry shawl thingies.

Was about to say dry robes have been popular in obstacle course racing for probably 10 years or more
