I'm doing it up to 25th. Burns Night without whisky is anathema.

Yup, I'm in as well. Much the same as other posters on here, drinking too much, need to cut down for health and wealth reasons...plan to just stop, not just for January but altogether. Stopped for 4 months early in the year and felt a lot better for it, unfortunately went back to the drink when partner left me :-(.
Feel more comfortable personally now and in a good place to restart stopping, if that makes sense 🙂

No chance. The small brewers have had it tough enough without folk jumping on this bandwagon. Drink in moderation and everyone’s happy 🍺🍺

First word **** second word off...

Alchol is not the answer but its a perfectly acceptable interim solution.

Yes, I’m in (and so is my wife). Like others have said, we’ve been drinking far too much since lockdown kicked in back in March. My body needs a rest. Having attempted various reduction techniques (alternate days on/off, no booze Mon-Thurs, max one bottle of wine a day (not the most rigorous target)) I think a complete stop is the way forward. I’m going to read and drink herbal tea tonight.

I'm not stopping drinking in January. 3 bottles of bowland beer in already! I might reduce intake a little, but I don't drink that much anyway. 🍺🍺🍺

If anyone wants to cut down on their drinking, may i suggest a 9 month course of Long Covid? Not only will you be unable to walk as far as the pub, you'll also start to feel sick after about 2 units of booze. It's a win-win!

Drunk very little the last 5.5 weeks due to COVID. One drink and it goes to my head (nothing like Doris), and end up sleeping badly. Think it’ll be a pretty dry January as a result as I hope to slowly discover some fitness.

Not sodding likely. I’ve still got around a dozen bottles of beer I bought before Christmas, along with three bottles of scotch, and two bottles of bourbon. I drink, on average, a bottle of beer an evening, and a shot glass of spirit. That’s until I go back to work on Tuesday. After that, maybe a bottle of beer, or a glass of some spirit or other, of an evening, but those bottles will last some considerable time. The last year has been really shitty, I’m not going be some sort of martyr, I’ve drunk bugger-all through most of last year.

Not a chance! I’ve been on this planet for 50 years and I don’t think I’ve lived through a less appropriate time to stop drinking.

Touché!

40yrs in my case... I'm actually planning how to actively increase my alcohol intake this January (have done the last few Jan's dry no bother), and am even contemplating taking up hard drugs!

I'm not. The only Christmas presents I got were 4 bars of chocolate and nine bottles of cider and perry

I'm in. Struggled with post Covid fatigue most of the year and drinking isn't helping at all.

Made sure to finish all my perishable booze on Hogmanay and feel terrible for it still. Will be dry until I can sit down with a mate and enjoy a pint...I'm guessing that's at least a month away, possibly 3 or 4.

Was dry for about 2 months last year, just before lockdown. Felt great for it.

Been dry since May 2019. For something I never thought I’d be capable of doing for more than a week or two, it was surprisingly easy to initiate and maintain. I have no logic to share but am sure as hell it was one of the best decisions I’ve made.

Not arid but certainly at the level that if I was a cress flannel you’d lightly mist me. Dropping back to a four pack of Carlsberg every couple of days or so. With a couple of dry days a week.

Been dry since May 2019

I was for 15 years.

Then when studying for O-levels I found a local pub would let’s us have half pints of bitter (Morlands original) and play bar billiards on our study days out of school.

Do this most years and usually see some benefits to weight and sleep patterns. As now WFH and with a 3 month old puppy that needs nighttime toilet trips I’ll be doing it again this year.

As with many others, I have been WFH since March and have seen the habit of regular consumption definitely grow, so a break will be beneficial I’m sure.

Good luck to everyone attempting this with everything going on right now, something tells me there will be plenty of temptations to break it! I would join you all but I'd be cheating as I've been teetotal for 9 years, partly by choice and partly for medical reasons. It'll be 10 years in October!

Screw that. Good luck to those trying it, but I've got two kids, a family of four, and a vulnerable old man, all whilst trying to run a small business in one of the most uncertain and economically f'd up times in recent history. Alcohol and riding my bike are the only things keeping me going 😂

So, at some point today I figure that we will be around 25% of the way through. How's everyone doing?

Personally I'm bored with the whole thing. Not feeling any different, no improvement in sleep etc., slight weight gain. The only real benefit is a clearer head in the morning but broken sleep and a whole world of stress going on means I'm still knackered most of the time. I'll stick with it though and see if things pick up. Anybody seeing positives?

I don't think I've had Covid (or Do I?) But ever since Italy in February last year, I have been unable to drink more than a bottle of two of beer in an evening.
Got to the stage now that even 330ml bottle of lager gives me a significant hangover.

AF for me now.

I do it every year. Drinking up to new year was getting ridiculous though. Think nothing of 4 beers and a bottle of red.

Stopped last Saturday and aside from a few twitchy nights, I feel immeasurably better already. Sleep mainly. Proper deep restful sleep rather that waking at bang on 4am and tossing and turning with a thick head.

I usually keep it up for 6 weeks.

I do this every year, just to give my body a little break.
It usually extends towards the end of Feb.

I may extend a bit longer this year, as I was (mentally) in a bit of a bad spot late last year due to work/life balance pressures. (and some other stuff)

I’ve decided to dry January this year. Tonight will be the test! I never usually last past my birthday on the 26th but there won’t be a part this year (thinking back to the big do for my 50th last year- feb 8th I think we had it as people were away skiing- seems like a different world!)

I’m bored of it now and I’m sick of eating. My snacking has massively increased.

I do feel I have more energy though and it’s easier to get going in a morning.

I’ve never completed dry January before.

I went off it in March. I still have one can of Stella left. It's not been hard to resist.

Yup scoffing a bit here too. Not helped by a WhatsApp group having a big chat about favourite Belgian beers.

Ah well Becks blue it is...

Bought a big crate of AF mixed Brewdog beers. I'm honestly starting to think I prefer them to real beers!

Weirdly I seem to have stopped drinking without even meaning to. I opened a bottle of beer the other day and only took a sip. thats the first drink I have had for a week and it was two weeks before that. I used to drink a fair amount of beer and I make my own sloe gin which is just sitting in the cupboard.

Well the main reason I'm doing it is to see if it improves my belly. I'd been alright so far, but something really kicked me off last night which was annoying.

I've had a couple of af beers this evening. Brooklyn special effects is decent. i bought some schlofferhofer today but I'm not having it, that would be cheating!

I definitely sleep better having had no booze which is good, but I do miss it. I just like a drink!

6 days in for me and an observation, 5 lbs lost and darker than usual wee. I guess this is mostly water any my body flushing out the toxins as my liver's getting a few days off?

It's going quite well for me.

Stayed strong despite a big shock this week and subsequent stress.

I'm snacking a fair bit less, but then booze and snacks go hand in hand for me.

No weight loss yet, sadly.

7 days in and it's only in the last couple of hours I fancy a drink.

No scales so no idea of any changes in weight.

Must.
Not.
Pour.
Bourbon.

Been in since 1st Jan. So far so good. Had 4 bottles of Nanny State on Friday night and was getting a bit confused because I thought I should have been feeling the effects, then reminded it was alcohol free.

Has anyone discovered a half reasonable AF red wine? To make life harder needs to be vegan. A lot of them seem to have been fined using fish or gelatine. Appreciate it's a niche request.

I'm in. Had some wine and a couple of beers on New Year's Day. Nothing since.

Beer is my downfall, Although I'd happily have one or two every day, I can also go days or sometimes weeks without wanting one. But when the "I really fancy a beer" feeling comes on, it's hard to resist! That hasn't happened yet this year, it's due!

I definitely snack less when I'm abstaining, double bonus.

So, getting towards the end of the fourth weekend and who is still in? Really miss the Friday night post work beer but apart from that, not too bad. Started to lose a little weight into the bargain. Bit of a bummer that the 30/31 is next weekend which bungs and extra week on but hey-ho!

I've been doing a challenge which involves no alcohol during Jan. It also involves no caffeine after 14:00, 2 ltrs water each day, 30 mins exercise, 12000 steps, 2300 calories, 15 min stretch. Some days it's hard to get the steps in, considering 1 exercise walk a day at the moment and I work at a desk. However, getting a dog this year improved my steps as I can now walk her. Everything else, not too hard tbh. I always did 2-3 exercises a day anyway. Agree about no booze on Friday being very tough! After work, I'm gagging for a beer or glass of red in the eve.
Tbh, I've not noticed any difference in no booze? Not feeling fresher at all, and mornings aren't any clearer! I've lost my Xmas weight- 5lb. I'll prob try and continue no booze during week though (except Friday!). It's saved me money 😀

I'm still in. I'm not finding it too hard to resist, but I do fancy a drink most evenings! It's unlikely to last much into February, I'm looking forward to that first beer or glass of wine, but I'll feel quite smug with myself for my minor achievement!

Not really noticed much benefit to be honest, except sleep. I've known for a long time that booze disturbs my sleep, but it's really evident now that my sleep is much improved.

Tried a couple more af beers. Some from Booths I'd not seen before which weren't good to be honest, I forget their name. Ilkley brewery af pale ale, that was rank. Hoegarden af, that's ok. Brooklyn special effects still tops the leaderboard for me.

Agreed re the lack of other benefits although I'll put that down to the slightly unreal situation we are currently in.
