Don't normally do this but since lockdown, consumption has gone up. So who is joining me in this self-imposed misery?

We were going to....we're both fairly big drinkers at the best of times.....January is going to be bleak enough though without having to face it sober!

No way. This January is going to be grim enough without adding yet more misery into it.

Hell no, going dry in a Brexit and COVID filled January is not for me at all.

I'm in.

Did 100 days off the booze last year from early March through to mid June and loved it. I'll do the dry January to kick off the year as with the pubs closed and tier 4 (maybe 5) lockdown I wont be missing any of the good fun social drinking, just the indoors, pointless boredom avoidance drinking. I've got some books, films, computer games, board games to keep me entertained, will try cooking some new recipes, get some DIY jobs done and january will fly by. I'm half tempted to stick with the dry thing through to summer, maybe Englands first game in the euros if they go ahead, all the time we are locked down I'll continue but once I can meet mates in the park for a few beers in the sunshine I'll probably go straight back to it

Not a chance! I’ve been on this planet for 50 years and I don’t think I’ve lived through a less appropriate time to stop drinking.

Just wondering whether it's too early for a beer.

The pubs have had a bad year, when they re-open they’ll need our custom.

Planning to ATM but that could change as the day wears on. Planning on making the most of being teir 3 with early morning visits to the gym-which will change in a couple of days or so.

I'm planning on doing it. I've eaten a lot of crap over the past few weeks and I know it's bad for my IBS or whatever it is that's wrong for me! Gonna try to knock the crap on the head for a bit too see if my belly gets better.

Still going from last year *smug face*

Still going from 2019, or was it 2018? One or the other.

I'm very much in!
Might be 2/3 months for me; drinking was far too frequent last year.

Yup. I'm in. Not a big drinker but increased in the last few months after becoming single, time to stop.

Nope. January is a depressing hell month. What I am going to try to do though, is savour the drinking I do do - rather than just having a beer or two with my tea without thinking about it.

Hardly had anything in 2018/2019 for various reasons, but the last time I had an alcoholic drink was NYE 2019.

Still going since 10 August 2018 (inclusive). Gave up the occasional cig I was still having, vaping and any other ‘substance’ at the same time *humblebrag*

Not giving up beer but decided to cut out my cannabis consumption as it got a bit silly in lockdown.

Yep, planning to. Have drunk far too much since March, and vast weight gain has ensued. Hopefully dry January will kickstart the weight loss.

@sadexpunk, I'll join you in those couple of rums, pointless stopping part way through the day really innit.

I was gonna. Then I realised I've got 2/3rds of a bottle of red left. So unfortunately, I'm out. 😁

Will be starting the Monday after Epiphany, which is the final public holiday here in Spain - so that's from the 11th. And it'll be running until Valentine's Day or so. (Almost certainly the Friday before it which is the 12th).

And it's for the usual motives: my drinking has been going up over Christmas, a bit of money saved, weight loss... Yeah, I know that ideally I'd be drinking to government guidelines all year, and this wouldn't be necessary, but 🤷‍♂️

I'm in, drinking far to much at home it has become a bad habit and not really enjoying it.

Seems like a good time as any for a break.

Any suggestions for alternatives for alcholic drinks, I would like to stay away from fizzy.

Like many above I've found my intake of alcohol has increased dramatically since March, almost like a 9 month weekend. The weight has piled on, just over a stone, and I feel like I need a break.

I recently went into a local 'home brew' shop for the first time after walking past it for about 4 years, only to find it had the most amazing range of European beers, some decent craft ales and ciders and perrys - so in the spirit of helping to maintain the hospitality and drinks industries after the impact of various lockdowns, the answer is a firm 'no'.

Dry January?, not a ****ing chance.

Got approx 48 cans from vocation brewery, mix of their lovely chocolate/coffee/cherry stouts and assorted beers, seeing as I only drink one can/day I doubt I need to dry out.

Started 90 days dry on the 27th .. I’ve been drinking to much and it’s been hitting me mentally and physically . Head seems better already, been out on the bike last three days , I’d have sacked it off if I’d have had a drink so it’s a yes from me .. good luck

I will massively cut down this month as I’ve upped my volume since mid November, and that’s on top of uplift from Spring’s lockdown, but going dry in Jan is out of the question. February is far more palatable.

I'm in. Booze seems to be making and adding to the misery these days. I'm happiest when not drinking and sleeping well.

Yep, I’m stopping drinking from Sunday. Last year I did Jan to end of May and I know how much better I feel - sleep well, better mood, weigh loss etc. I usually start again once the evenings are long enough to stop at a pub after a ride and still have time to get home in daylight. But who knows when pubs will reopen this year,..

No. But (aside from the last 10 days) I have cut down drinking a lot recently as it wasn’t agreeing with me; and I have got to the point when I look forward to a non-alc beer in the evening. The brew dog Punk AF is pretty nice, though not as nice as the Hazy AF which I can’t seem to find at the moment
