Seen 'em a few times over the years, but watching them tear into The Cedar Room or Pounding (as they did last night) never fails to make the room go a bit dusty for me, for various reasons.

Hooray for life-affirming miserablism! 😀

Doves are playing at Bingley Music Live at the beginning of September, it's a 10 minute walk from my house, should be a good do.
Also on the line-up are Ocean Colour Scene who were superb last time they were here in '06.

Life affirming miserablism sounds right up my street, yet they seem to have gone under my radar so far. Where should I start with their stuff? Huge fan of Radiohead, Sigur Ros, Mogwai and stuff like that.

I'd start with their debut album Lost Souls.

I love The Fear,a real masterpiece. Not many bands push themselves so hard.

I loved Some Cities and bought the new one which took a while to grow - but after seeing them at Glasto last night think I'll have to check out their earlier albums...

"Life-affirming miserabilism" - so that's what it is!

Seen them twice, ,loved them both times, and the second viewing of Kingdom of Rust vid brought tears to my eyes, as do a number of their other songs. Porky Northerners rule!

I'd seen them several times, but the gig they did a couple of months or so ago for Kingdom of Rust was stunning, they really seem to have shifted up a couple of gears. Blinding gig, not quite as good as Elbow or Metric around the same time, but really excellent just the same.
