Contemplating as a 2nd car. For my commute 60mile 4 days per week. 40% B road rural, 50% A1 dual and 10% city.

Will it take a road bike with seats down? Would it take a saris bones thingy for my cx bike?

Fancy something small nippy and cheap. Fiesta st was an option also but that's thirstier and higher tax.

Ideally my heart wants a civic type r but in reality that is daft.

The 5 doors could be handy as I have a 2yr old who may be in it now and again.

My OH has a Fiat 500 1.4 Sport, same floor pan and engine as the Panda 100hp.

I've had a rigid MTB in the back, both wheels off and I'd guess the Panda has more useable space too.

Quite nippy, you need to keep the revs up quite high if you're overtaking etc. Not sure with the Panda but has a tiny tank- £35 to fill from the light being on.

I've got a '05 Type R, on long runs I see just shy of 40mpg, sitting at 70/80 ish. Round town or sprited drives its probably somewhere around 28mpg. Takes a HT/FS MTB with just the front wheel off, rigid MTB can be left with both wheels.

100hp is noisy, uncomfortable and mine now rattles a lot. I only get 35ish to the gallon. Seats fold down and I have carried a bike in it but have an Espace for that.
I love it and thrash it all the time. 50000 miles so far and only mechanical is a rear wheel bearing.
Was another thread on here with a chap getting one. He might be more clued up on racks etc but can't see why they wouldn't fit.

Not got one but I would.

It'd be even better if they made a 100HP 4x4.

Yes, my youngest has one. Great fun, great visibility. Bike should go inside not outside!! Economical and cheap to run. And cheap to fill up (just need to do it quite often!)
Get one!

I have the regular Panda and its pretty good. It has roof rails so bikes go on the roof on a thule carrier. They will fit in the back with wheels off but its not that spacious. I can't see why a saris bones won't fit the back.

A mate of mine had one... We fitted 2 bikes and 2 people's worth of gear in the back with just a little inventive stacking. Never drove it, but welsh roads made it feel very gokarty at times- low, stiff and a bit crashy. Liked it but I don't think I'd have one.

I've got a 2001 Punto sporting, which i believe are very similar, though mine is a 1.2 16v and not the 1.4 16v. the 6 speed box makes it quicker than it's rivals and also more economical.

I've had 50mpg on a long motorway drive from notts to deven, but genrally get around 40mpg. This is calculated based on mileage done and fuel used (though the mileage done is probably not 100% accurate)

I had the bikes on a roof rack with genuine fiat roof bars, no issues at all, hits economy slightly though.

Mine has now done 110k miles with very few issues (i've had it for 4.5 years/55k miles).

Power steering is electric and if it fails can be expensive, but you can get reconditioned units for less than £200 from ebay and they are easy to fit. Air bag lights are also an issue, but are on a lot of budget cars (and now a MOT failure)

Fuel tank on the punto is 45l and cost about £65 to fill. should see around 400 miles driven carefully. I'm sure the panda is similar sized

I'm sure the panda 100hp will be slightly better and a little more refined compared to the punto. I'll probably consider one for my fiance once she's passed her test.

I know you weren't asking for alternative recommendations....but....

You can get Ibiza TDi Sport 130s for a pretty low price. Ideal 2nd car for a decent length commute I reckon. Easily 50mpg, probably more like 55mpg, plenty of boot space, low insurance grp, £120 tax, plenty of oomph.
Not sure it would take a Saris Bones because of the boot spoiler.
My 03 ticked over 200k miles early last week.

Or if you like the idea of the Fiesta ST, how about the ZetecS?

Brilliant cars the panda. Hp had a roof rack.

ZetecS is by far better than a ST!

Had a test drive in a 100hp with my brother in law. Surprisingly roomy in the back, all 6ft4 of me fit in quite nicely. Really nippy too, and cornered on rails. Ride was pretty stiff, but you'd expect it to be. We both loved it, as it reminded us of our classic mini's (probably what the bmw version should of been more like).

Neither of us actually needed it, but couldn't turn down a free test drive!

If/when my fiesta goes, I'll be looking for one of these i reckon.

I just bought one. 2 weeks ago. As a second car I love it, it great fun to whizz around the city in. The ride is a bit crashy but i can live with it. It corners on rails, is quite quick for such a small engine if you keep the revs up, hilarious fun. I have on-street parking so the tiny size is great for that.
Not done bikes in the back yet, but can't see it being an issue with the seats down, prob a both wheels off job. I will probably get a rack but not gotten round to it yet. There is a lot more usable space than the 500, wider boot opening and a more square load area.
I drove one back to back with a fiesta st, the fiesta was quite nice, and more roomy than the panda. But it doesn't have anywhere near as much character.
33mpg at the moment, entirely in town driving and tbf I've been caning it at every opportunity.

Even a normal panda is a hoot to drive.

What is the 100 like on motorways?

We've got one. It spends most of its time in town, which is fine. I think it would annoy me if I had to commute very far in it every day. As others have said, its noisy, bouncy and thirsty(ish), but a right hoot. Ours seems to be screwed together really well and has been completely reliable, but has only done about 30k. Plenty of room for kids in the back, plenty of kit. Very cheap to insure. Loves to be ragged everywhere, but good fun at licience-retaining speed.

If fuel economy is a factor don't even consider putting a bike on the roof/back as it makes a big difference. keep them inside.

It's ok on the motorway if you potter along at 70mph. It's geared too low for high speed cruising. It's not a good motorway car by any stretch of the imagination but acceptable at 70mph.

Pandas are ace! I still miss my old 4x4 one, but it had to go as it was dissolving. For a small car, you could sleep in the back with the seats down and i managed to fit a 7' 2" mini-mal surfboard in it once.

Wicked cars.

Might be worth looking at Fiat 500 Twin Airs too.
Persuaded my Mum to buy one and she loves it. Considering getting one ourselves too. Free tax, good economy (but not 70mpg claimed).

Performance is impressive. I love the engine, loads of torque and lots of character. Real world performance is good. I'm used to more powerful cars, but I'd be really happy with a Twin Air.
Panda 100HP is probably just as much fun and cheaper to buy though.

Being pedantic, the Panda 100HP does not have the same engine as the 500 1.4. The 500 has a 16v engine, the 100HP is 8v and 1HP less 🙂

100HP is fine on motorways I think. 6 gears help. Practical fun.

ALso look at the C2 - £30 tax, under £100 FC insurance and 40+ economy

What about the Suzuki Swift Sport too? we've been thinking about one to replace the ageing Golf tdi as the Mrs doesn't commute that far now and it's all in town

I want, I mean really WANT, a new 4x4! There was a thread on here a while back with some photos of them being really thrown around off-road, four wheels off the ground over a dirt jump! I would have thought the 85Hp diesel would be more than enough for general driving.
Remapping could possibly get another 15-20Hp?

Get a multijet and put some 14-15 inch wheels on it for some grip, mine fits two large 29ers in the back with wheels and seatposts out, is great fun to drive briskly and cruises at 80 with oomph to spare..
average 60mpg, group 2 insurance, £30 tax, FTW....
Edit, a remap doesn't give many more horses but turns em into little torque monsters....

Why would anyone laugh unless this place is full of pretentious tosses. Oh wait a mo it's stw!!

By all accounts it's a great little car, you might not get the best mpg with it, if you want 60+ mpg go for the diesel.

I had the original SSS, it fun to drive but expensive to run compared to the Panda 100HP.
Really wish we had either kept our original order for a Fabia vRS or got the Panda. Swift was sold within 6 months and lost a heap of money. Lies from the dealership didn't help either mind.

Torques FTW! More important really for a 4x4..
Just had a quick shufti at a couple of sites, and I've got the engines the wrong way round; the petrol's the 1.4 85Ps, the diesel's 75Ps 1.3. Still, the torque's the most important thing anyway.

Laugh?

Its an English thing to think small car equals gay and big manly.

I had a Scouse in a A3 right up behind me flashing his lights...came alongside and changed his tune to 'I qas flashing my lights to say thank you'. Eh?! 😆

Pre new Pandas should be getting cheaper now

Only regret was not doing it sooner surely - cupra's a hoot bar the economy
