The Bax castle (between southwater and christs hospital) seems to be popular and is about half way.

Yep did this a couple of weeks ago, Food is good at Bax Castle. The mixed gril was execllent. Oh watch out for the northern end of the trail toward St Mathras Hill. Quite a hard steep up hill on very loose sand which makes it almost impossible to ride the last bit.
