Off to the lakes in a couple of weeks on a walking holiday, and the last couple of times Denzel the Staffie has either cut or grazed the soles of his pads on all the climbing often on sharp rocks/stones. 🙁
Can anyone recommend any hard wearing dog shoes suitable for this type of activity?

Thanks
FJ

We got some ruff wear ones for our dog. Ordered from the states. Vibrate soles on them! Just be aware that they take a bit of breaking in and some kids socks inside them might help. They can rub the tops of the paws.

Think so. What about Hush Puppies?

Try walking the dog on the pavement for a bit to toughen up the pads on his feet. Then build up the time. Two weeks should be enough. Dog shoes really are not necessary and they are a complete pain to keep on.

Not as simple as that, Inbred - Denzel gets a 2 hour walk every morning, half of which is on road and another 50 minute evening walk almost all of which is on road. In short he's been down more roads than Eddie Stobart!
The problem is with all the loose sharp stones when we are descending the fells, so I thought a decent set of shoes may stop the problem.

I assume the "D" in DX stands for dog, a pair of these and he'll be reet.

Or inner tube and zip ties 😉

My wife is from Germany and when I’m over I take the family dog out biking. The dog loves it and is obsessed by it, but unfortunately suffers badly from his efforts with cut feet within a couple of miles. My dog back in Scotland has no such problem- being a hard Highlander! Now that dog in Germany is not only the family per but is also a search and rescue dog and as a result has to wear ‘doggy shoes’ to protect his feet. The owner of the dog also works in very posh vets, so should be very well informed as to which shoes may work. The ones I previously tried fell off within a mile! If I can find out further info I will let you know.

Although I don't have a dog I was mightily impressed by those Ruff Wear booties mentioned above. Saw a lot of them out in Canada and were on sale in all the proper outdoor shops so are not a gimmick.

If I had a dog it would have a set of those for its paws.

We bought those Ruff wear ones for our dog when we did the Devon C2C.
They wouldn't stay on. We did not persist for too long with them. She didn't mind them, but perhaps her long hair had something to do with their failure to stay put.

Her feet stayed pretty healthy but it wasn't sharp flints she was on.
