So what about the brake wear and extra fuel from decelerating and accelerating over them?

I find it quite annoying when they're sized inappropriately for the speed limit - there's a 30 (outside a school, changes to 20 when the kids are about) near me, I'm quite happy not to speed up it, I keep the speed down within speed limits around town anyway, you physically can't speed down it if you're daft enough to drop young Tarquin and Delilah off by car, and there are huge speed bumps that would wreck the entire underside of your car above 20.

Pilllows are a ****ing nuisance on 2 wheels too, and a liability in snow as you then can't see them, catch the edge and fall off (well, OK, I only nearly fell off). Having to go around them downhill in greasy conditions = don't want to hug the kerb and potentially hit debris/inattentive pedestrians etc. but also would really like to not have to play chicken with oncoming traffic down the middle.

Ride a proper bike and it's not an issue.

I do. Mainly because they're there for a reason, but also because I know that slowing down for them pisses off the people behind me who routinely speed.

You dont have to accelerate between them.

You were either raised on Dukes of Hazzard or those terrifying British public information films. Your attitude to speed bumps will be calibrated accordingly.

Speedbumps themselves are pretty inconsistent - I’ve seen ones on main roads that wouldn’t unseat a roadie, and ones in car parks that could jar every bolt loose on the plushest SUV in the world even at 7mph.
