Having look around to reduce our bills and get rid of our really slow BTbroadband.
We can do cheaper but they still use BT lines so still really slow.
So before we sign with Virgin is there anyone else? Do other people use Virgin lines ?
Virgin will also use BT lines unless your street is already cabled with Coax.
The only alternative is satellite or 3 or 4g mobile internet dongle. Satellite used to be fairly pricey and you need to do the maths as some (all?) use a fixed line for the upload, satellite for the download.
Have you checked to see if you can get BT Infinity? (significantly faster)
Check if Local Loop Unbundling is available where you are. That means the ISP has installed their own equipment in the exchange. So that might allow it to be faster or cheaper, though it still uses the same BT wires to your house.
There are a few ISPs with their own wireless network, but most have fairly limited coverage, and rather expensive.
