I was very disappointed in the issue tbh. But at least I have a natty chainstay protector (anyone want it?) and the MintSauce page was produced on time 😉
When all is said and done though, it seemed that much of it was just press release rehashed.

Actually, the trail centre guides are always good, love reading what Mr Ashton is up to and it's good to see which colours are currently fashionable so I know what to avoid.
The bike reviews are a bit bland, but oddly the group component reviews are often quite scathing - nice to see a bit of objectivity.
It's the same as it was back in the early 90's, but with shorter stems, more travel & less purple.

MBUK is all about Doddy, it's rubbish! Stopped buying it.
i haven't bought (or looked at) MBUK in a couple of years now, but whatever you may think of doddy he can actually ride a bike fairly well (loads better than me and probably a good deal better than most of you too).
Whenever I buy it, I always find something that really makes me angry in it. Cliched toss phrasing, marketing bollocks and such. I am the wrong target audience at 38 though I guess
Haven't bought it since the day Doddy, Chris (smacked arse) Smith and Scott Beaumont were on the uplift at Cwm. Neither doddy or smith could be arsed to say hello or talk to anyone else all day and sat up front. Beaumont on the other hand was the perfect pro, sat with the masses, taking the time to talk to everyone and generally seemed happy to be riding bikes for a living.
I want to see this picture... But I don't want to buy MBUK...

Got to say that does look like a "stop for a moment then restart" tree lean not a Northwind-style "I'm going to die, better grab this tree" tree lean, all his body language says he's planning to restart. So maybe just making a gap which is sensible.
He seemed a decent enough feller when I bumped into them at glentress, but... Why would you go up to him and slag off the magazine he works for? Never mind being surprised at a negative reaction after? Why would you be surprised when he talks to his mates on an uplift? If he'd turned up and said "Hi I'm Doddy" chances are he'd be getting slagged on Teh Internetz for thinking he's a superstar because he writes for a magazine...

Interestingly, many moons ago, MBUK actually made me cross the line from "I like to ride my bicycle just like any other young kid" to "I like mountain biking as a sport".
This was long before the internetz and Dirt/STW/MBR for that matter - early 1990s!!

He didn't talk to anyone. Like it or not he represents the biggest mtb mag in the UK , if he worked for me I'd expect him to be a bit gracious and try to promote the sport, not act like he was too good to mix it with the commoners. Of all the people who are 'players' in the industry I have met he is the most ignorant , arrogant and aloof. Just my opinion but reason enough for me not to buy the monthly pile of adverts and self congratulatory toss that is mbuk.

Went to the Cycle Show at Excel a few years back and shared a table with Doddy having a coffee. Seemed a nice enough bloke and had a chat about this and that, certainly didn't seem aloof or bigheaded.
Suppose we all have good and bad days when we are not at our chattiest or feel like socialising.
He passed me when I had stopped by a trail waiting for a friend and asked if I was ok which was nice. I wouldn't expect him to go out of his way to talk to me on an uplift - why would I?!

Yea i used to read it then, it was much better, but last time i read it it told me i needed three bikes to have a good time! Nuff said!
Back in the day, all-mountain, freeride, trail riding, etc didn't exist (marketing people hadn't thought of it yet).
The articles would feature 'pros' doing DH / XC on more-or-less the same bikes (Zaskars with Judy DHs/Judy XCs.... and a DCD for the chain!).
I agree these days they advise you that you need:
1 for Trail Centres (6x6).
1 for XC (lightweigh ht).
1 for DH (8 inch plus).
1 for DJ.
1 for 4X. etc.
that's pretty much the implicit advice of most of the members on this forum! 😮
