what if they genuinely think your decision is poor ?

"I'm going to buy a £400 bike - either an apollo throbber or a tesco death****. I'm 4foot 6, will the 23 inch model be right or should I go 24?"

AHHHHHHHHHH-HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!

See that's my point PRECISELY!!!! You haven't understood the basics!!

Your example is asking for a choice BETWEEN the Throbber and the Death**** and then for advice on size (Love the names, BTW!)

More accurately you should have written:

I'm going to buy an Apollo Throbber. I really don't want a Tesco Death****, because it doesn't come in purple and yellow

See???
Thanks for the perfect demonstration of exacly what I mean. You may have read the question, but it got garbled in your head and you failed to answer it properly!
😀

of course flat pak bikes from asda are a good investment, its not asda's fault no one in the country is able to build them correctly, keep it in the box and just think of the resale value on ebay in 20 years as a collectors item or even better rare 😉

The wheels will go round twice as fast, but other than that it will proceed down the conveyor belt and take off as normal.

Yes, but how much is it worth? I reckon at least £800, but I'm only getting offers for 50p

either an apollo throbber or a tesco death****.

Laugh of the day, thank you!

Oh, and if you try dipping it in yoghurt first, that may help soothe the swelling.

no, I understood your point but liked my 2 options & genuinely couldn't decide between them. I don't see the salient part of you statement to be the NUMBER of options you're considering - it's the (un)suitability that matters:
A sensible stw response would be "no, you can do far better than that for 400 quid - either a new shitehawk sl or there's a great Ibis mojo on ebay just now" neither of which would offer any option for the throbber or death**** (a highly overrated bike IMO - the cheaper danger**** is just as good). Anyone who said that the 23" throbber (fnarr) was the right option from those presented is guilty of answering the question but providing poor advice

But mostly it's people that haven't read/understood the question or think their opinon is more valid than an actaul correct answer.

The trouble with your threads Peter is that they are always a test to see if anyone knows the actual correct answer. I'm not sure you've ever posted a thread when you didn't know what the answer was, or wanted feedback, opinions or a general discussion. Most people don't post to test other users' intelligence, and we are inevitably caught out when you do it. 😀

Pete, you have proved your point, no we don't actually read posts, its all about a chance to express our (undeniably right) opinion without getting into a fight, or caring what anyone else thinks.

Besides, f(x)=y so whatever you choose, it will depend on your other choice as well.

Its all just a way to fill in time between riding and eating for me.

I was going to say "oh gosh, sorry, you're right, silly me." Then I read the first thread you linked to:

cinnamon_girl - Member
Orange? Trek?

PeterPoddy - Member
Trek WSDs all have 100mm forks. Orange Divas are silly prices (And poorly specced IMO)

Believe me, I've had a good look already......

You asked a question, cinnamon girl tried to answer it and you bollocked her for getting the answer wrong! I've no problem with it, but the reason you don't like the answers you get is that your standards are very high. 😉

I would go for the Gutrush Rockslapper "Cornwall" edition FS bike myself.

You asked a question, cinnamon girl tried to answer it and you bollocked her for getting the answer wrong!

And the later on in the same thread.....

CG - I was just about to say something along the lines of "I've just looked and you're wrong" but I went and checked the geometry, (rather than just the spec page like I did before) on the Orange site and it does indeed say "Fork 100mm min, 130mm max"

Well done!

😀

It was partly that thread I was thinking of when I posed this one, actually. If you read it all through, you'll see why. I was getting a tad annoyed, because when people couldn't answer the question they decided to nit-pick our decision instead of just not replying. 😕
Only CG gave a decent answer. 🙂 The STW massiv beaten by a girl? The shame..... 😉

No offence/nit-picking PP ( 😉 ) but in that wsd bike thread, your reasons for insisting on a wsd are

1) your missus has a men's bike that doesn't fit (isn't it right that RL's are fairly short in the TT, which might worsen any feeling of being too far back, whereas kona's are supposedly relatively long - ie more like a "man's" bike ?)
2) you think she needs a women's bike

That's hardly conclusive proof for the rest of us (even CG started off asking whether wsd was really necessary). Obviously you believe you're right but EVERY time this comes up we get 50:50 answers so there are plenty of folk who similarly "know" you're wrong. None of them were nasty about it, they just offered their opinion

Anyhow, hasn't the weather been nice ? ...

Pouring down here now... 🙁

But everyone elses opinion on what I was asking was irrelevant. 🙂 I'd said in the OP that we were after a women's frame, NOT a mens. I know what mens bikes are available, thanks, and we wanted to find if there was a ladies frame that took 130mm forks. Only one person had and answer..... 🙂

I don't have a three year old daughter, but if I did then she'd be able to ride round there with her eyes shut because it's too easy.
