I am as argumentative etc or not as any other user on the forum, but I don't get special dispensation. I'm frankly confused at your comments but, please, hit the Report-Post button next time I'm displaying non-STW expected behaviour, or call me out in public. Either I'm oblivious or you're talking out of the top of your head, it'd be handy to know if it's the former so I can do something about it.

Since I don't have the time or motivation to dredge up old posts, the next best course of action would indeed be to start using report-post when (or if) it happens again. Will I? To be honest probably not, as I don't expect a neutral, fair or unbiased appraisal based on the way some moderators behave....thus, whats the point? We clearly have different expectations of how a moderator should behave in order to be effective.

We've asked you to provide evidence, you can't. We asked you if you can report in the future, you won't. So if you accusations are correct and you say others have noticed then we can't change anything unless you give us evidence. Really why did you even bother making these accusations?

Maybe it's just me, but if I was habitually receiving emails from the moderators of a mountain biking forum, I'd be having a word with myself.

Worked for me.

I now see this thread as Moderator baiting.

Many have been banned for far less..

Many threads have been closed down on the same subject..

Makes me wonder why this ones still alive......

Been knocking around this forum for years now, and I think of maybe a handful of people that have been banned for good, and I think as users of the fotum we probably don't get to see the whole story most of the time.

The forum is one of the biggest MTB discussion sites in the country? I think, and the vast vast numbers of posts are friendly and informative, while not wholly down to the moderating, a measure of it's success (IMO) is down to them.

It's a long way from being overbearing, and from my perspective I can easily tell and understand the difference between when the named mods are Modding and when they are just being users.

There's a report post button. Use it, or alternatively, go for a ride.

Seems that way.

They really haven't. Hold on you're not mod baiting are you? 😀

Many threads have been closed down on the same subject..

At times yes.

Makes me wonder why this ones still alive......

If we close it he'll claim a moral victory.

Drac, Coug's, you know this place well enough....don't feed, it's simple.

It's worse than watching the swerving king troll in action.

Hand on heart, the mods have the best interests of the community at heart.

It's a largely thankless task which is more difficult than people imagine - and the fact that they do it for free is remarkable.

Thumbs up mods.

Bullshit you don't.

Takes minutes to have a look through a single users posts.

Shut up now, it's getting embarrassing listening to you try and wriggle out of it.

You've posted 20 odd times over the course of this thread. Plenty of time to do what you claim you don't have time to do.

I never realised what that moderator tag was for until this thread. I assumed it meant Cougar and Drac were considered to be mediocre, which I personally thought was being quite generous.

As an experiment, shall we withdraw the moderating rods and allow the reactor to go critical?

It's a reasonable name for the job description I think.

If there was no moderation we'd have a smoking hole in the internet where the forum used to be.

Pass the vodka, comrade.

In general the moderation is good. However the occasional abusing of the forum users is rather odd and inappropriate IMO.

If a nuclear reactor had moderating rods, they'd have the opposite effect. The moderator is permanent and slows down the neutrons so that the fissile nuclei can capture them, be destabilised and fission.

The control rods absorb neutrons and are raised and lowered to control criticality.

But maybe you knew that and decided the pun was more important than the science? 🙂

Thanks nealglover, next time I wondering how to manage my time I'll default to you. You clearly know best. Regardless of the time involved, you have conveniently ignored the '...and motivation' part of my comment. All along I've said I was not going to be sad (or arsed) enough to look up old posts, and that has not changed. I'm happy to find the time to reply to posts like yours though to explain why you are wrong . Perhaps your post is a (pretty pathetic) attempt to curry favor with the mods?

Shut up now, it's getting embarrassing listening to you try and wriggle out of it.

Show me what I am trying to wriggle out of? From my first reply I said I was not going to be sad enough to look through someones post history, and I'm sticking with that.

While I stick by my comments in this thread, this has turned into one of those pointless bickering threads....I apologise for ruining it. I really don't feel strongly enough about the subject to continue generating this level of anger from certain people (genuine or not). If I felt more strongly about it I'd go to the trouble of finding examples, but I don't. As I said above, if that negates the discussion, thats fine, and thats my fault. Unless something specific (and interesting 8)) crops up, I'm going to try and resist posting on this thread again, and stick with the bike topics.

I guess I just don't take this place as seriously as some. In other area of life I wouldn't make 'accusations' without being prepared to back them up. Here, I just don't care that much, sorry.

I would post a picture of Jimmy Hill to insinuate that I don't believe you.

Although I thought, even though typing this explanation would take far longer, I would post it anyway. To explain that I can't be bothered to post a picture, because I can't be bothered.

I just don't care enough. Sorry.

I probably do yes, so that probably best.

I would love to help. (Email in profile)

Again, yes of course.

Please love me, people online I've never met. It really means a lot to me.

I missed that.

I will say I've been very surprised by the support on here from some on the ones we've had to discipline the most, if they seem happy with or modding we must be getting something right.

I incur the moderators wraith from time to time.. I think they're pretty good eggs..

However, people who report posts are frankly greasy little turds.. The thin watery kind that are painful and smell bad and offer little relief..

And I miss Fred and TJ

Being a mod on here is a pretty good definition of a thankless task. The one thing I always said to mates of mine who were considering taking on voluntary jobs like cricket club chairman was "don't expect a thank you until you resign, then everyone will be gushing with hindsight praise and harking back to your tenure in order to belittle the current incumbent".

I underwent a short 'holiday' after a bit of what I thought was light hearted ribbing. Unfortunately I think someone may have ratted on me after losing their rag. In fairness, I was given a warning, which I chose to ignore. The only thing that really pissed me off about that was that I had recently seen far worse stuff, and it seemed that I was banned for highlighting the tale-telling rather than my actual posts.

In hindsight, I was being a bit of nob.

On the whole, I think the mods do a better job than I could. They can also be arsed to do it (which I wouldn't), so I can't really complain.

They're people who want the forum to be place that's pleasant to visit. A one where people can come without being insulted for example.

Surely not exclusively, though?

I think some people do take themselves a little too seriously and resort to ratting on other people when they lose their temper.

However, this is just the real world in microcosm, so it shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone.

With respect, how could you possibly know the motivation behind it?

Sorry to appear argumentative, but we are into mind reading territory now, so I don't really buy that.........
