My younger brother (age 55) who works in Detroit has decided he doesn't want to grow old in Trump's mad USA and things seem to be coming to a natural end with his marriage to a bonkers American. He has many years of experience in the design and production of automotive transmissions, currently with a Canadian company who make transfer boxes for 4x4s. His impressive CV includes that he was Chief Development Engineer of the GM Hummer 2.
He has asked me to find out whether anybody in northern England or Scotland is still recruiting experienced engineers. Being that there is always somebody on ST who knows the answer to even the most obscure questions, I though I'd ask. Might also try on UK Climbing.
M Sport Ralley Guys are just outside Cockermouth in Cumbria, very interesting place from a few who have worked there but more race pace than normal automotive.
After that the hub is really around Solihull/Warwick with JLR, Aston martin etc there doing a lot of work.
M-sport do a lot more than rally nowadays, lots of road car development and plans for a massive new centre for other manufacturers to use.

With only 7 years until us social security kicks in and the disparity between US salaries and house costs might make it sting a lot moving back... a few years for better retirement and potential consulting role.
it may well be worth also waiting until next March for the lie of the land. It the design centres stay open but the EU people leave then a better salary can be negotiated. If the centres close then it is an expensive move
Automotive and transmissions in the U.K. are largely based around the Cov / Leamington area. Lots of different companies specialising in transmissions around. I work for one of them.

ZF is who you need,
they are a German company who design and manufacture gearboxes for trains, tanks, armoured and offroad vehicles, wind turbines, cars, automatic and manual boxes for trucks and buses..
Voith is their competitor and Allison is in the bus industry.
I know ZF have a remanufacturing centre in Nottingham along with offices, they have various sites throughout the UK
