Firstly, I really don't want a MTFU answer to this (but if you must - go ahead)
I had been off the bike most of the winter due to astha/chest infections etc. I sensibly waited until I was properly better and then headed out a few weeks ago to properly start my spring/summer fun which should see me fit enough for a Merida 50K.
However, I've come down with viral labrynthitis, which in short, means dizzy spells, balance issues, concentration problems and feeling very 'viraly' and lethargic. (It's horrible!)
Docs say it will clear in a few weeks, and to try not exert myself etc.
Problem is for 4 weeks now we (in Scotland at least) have been enjoying sunny weather, lovely evenings etc, and my bikes are laid up in the shed all clean and oiled.
I need a distraction, It's really getting me down.
Even goin for walks turns out as a FAIL as after 10 mins my head is spinning.
Being on here, reading about you guys' rides and anything MTB does fill the void, but it makes me pine for the trail all the more.
I need something else to distract me, or i'm going to go insane !
Over to you ?
Turbo Trainer and The Sufferfest films.
be outside
What b-l says. Just get outdoors, even if it means not doing much. Sunlight is a natural anti-depressant. Take a pair of binoculars and/or a camera. Marvel at all the wildlife you normally whizz past.
mtfu.
rest get well the routes will still be there when you are well enough to do them
When I can't ride my bike I play my guitar.
Ever thought about taking up a musical instrument?
I was confined to bed rest for 2 weeks last July (the longest 2 weeks of my life) and missed probably the only warm sunny weather we had. I just did a lot of reading (every mtb and cycling mag my wife could find) and watching tele/films. The only crumb of comfort I had was that it coincided with the TdF, so there was always something worth watching (just shows how bored I was!).
If you have to rest I'd recommend the following:
Internet shopping for new bike bits
Fitting new bits and general maintenance
Reading
Films
Games console
Route planning
