I listen to a lot of music across a wide range of genres and not unlike DezB I’m always looking for the next thing to listen to. I do have the classics that are pretty much played all the time though (lots of Funk, Soul, Clutch on constant rotation). One thing you can’t beat is discovering an artist, old or new, that really resonates with you. I find that this doesn’t happen very often.
I was idly browsing through Spotify and ended up listening to Jason Isbell. Both his solo stuff and work with the 400 unit. That was three months ago and I’m still listening to him on a pretty much daily basis. I was aware of him from Drive by Truckers, but his later career passed me by somehow. I know music is subjective, but for me he is the finest wordsmith I’ve ever come across.
Not sure what the point of this thread is other than to state what a joy music can be and how discovering something that really works for you is truly great. Songs from his catalogue have put me through the emotional ringer from hopeful, to happy and even (whispers it) tearful.

Thanks so much for this. Love the Truckers.
I discovered him on spotify as he did a few Townes Vab Zandt covers, now if you want a wordsmith try him Live at the Old Quarter is the best place to start.
By the way is it Eye ball or Is Ball? That one about Vampires is brilliant.
I think it’s is bell.
I’ve been listening to all the live recordings that are on Spotify. I’ve basically made a playlist of everything he’s done 😀
He’s actually turned me on to some other artists I probably wouldn’t have discovered too. Tyler Childers being the main one

Nice post funkmaster 🙂
I seem to be going nuts for female vocals lately (especailly rap, but none of those in the below), These 3 have struck me recently. Jockstrap have even been on that Radio6Music blah I believe. Their album is a cracker diverse and original.
Ohmme is like.. what a great piece of pop music and that guitar solo! Superb
My recent discovery was some of the other artists on Jalapeno Records such as Soopasoul. Some absolute crackers there!
Just by chance I listened to 'Anesthetize' by Porcupine Tree about 18 months ago. Been hooked since then, and since became a big fan of their singer/songwriter Steven Wilson. What an absolute genius yet hardly anyone has even heard of him.
Like deep, thought-provoking lyrics and melodies with amazing deft of touch punched with crunchy riffs?
Steven Wilson
If you don't get a lump in your throat watching this then you are one hard bastid 😉
Porcupine Tree
His album 'Hand. Cannot. Erase' is my current go-to listen.

Liked that. Reminded me of Peaches' solo on this:
Isball covers Townes.
Pretty much anyone can win me over with a Pancho and Lefty cover. I know it's the obvious choice but it's so damn good.
