What a wonderful way to bow out of the game!

It was with a sigh of releif when he retired, a professional goal hanger who made it an art form. Only problem is now there is George North, who if he fulfils his potential will make Shane's achievements wither. Arse.

He is one of the true greats of the game, had his detractors but his record speaks for itself.

In a game of giants the little man stood tall.

had his detractors

Only in england surely. I thought he was universally revered over the severn bridge?

Shane is/was the perfect flawed genius.
To say he was just a goal hanger is to seriously underestimate his passing and play making ability though, he did so much more for wales than just score tries. Often appearing in midfield to put others in space or coming in as first reciever.

Yeah we've had this discussion before and disagree, I never thought much of his play other than his incredible ability to always be in the right place to finish. That alone deserves mucho respect. Is it not enough that he was an incredible winger and scored more tries than all other welshmen put together? Or is his god like status such that you have to elevate him beyond that, world peace perhaps? ๐Ÿ˜€

PS what is the flawed part - explain o wise one?

Shows your distinct lack of understanding for the amount of yards/try's he made then, many a Shane Williams break led to Lee Byrne, James Hook try's, his defence was poor at the start of his career but suddenly he became known for a good few defensive tackles, he made Banhahan look stupid last year at twickers! Big man like that should have scored.

And the right place at the right time is true for some aspects, though I can think of a hell of a lot of wingers who fit in the same bracket, but his try's against the Boks in the 2008 summer tour, along with a fair few others certainly show he was not lucky or in the right place at the right time, he generally had pace, skill and a good armoury of trickery.

Had a good chat with him after I played against his brother (who's shocking) and he generally is a top bloke, I'll miss him, and I hope whatever he does next is successful for him.

You lot will do anything to interpret something as negative. You just misinterpreted what I said. I never said he was lucky, I said he had an incredible ability to be in the right place to finish . I think it takes

pace, skill and a good armoury of trickery
to achieve goalhanging nirvana. In fact the stats show he is/was probably the best in the world. The only luck involved was his gift.

FFS why can't you take a compliment when you see one. In fact every post I have made about Shane has been complimentary. I'm pretty sure I pointed out that I was relieved when he retired, that he made his game an art form, he has incredible ability and is an incredible winger. What exactly more do you want? I'm english, don't you see. Do you expect me to come over there and suck him off like you do?

Why dont you pick on AA instead, he said he was flawed, I mean how dare he say anything against the mighty one.

AA - care to explain what the flawed bit means?

Shane was flawed because his one on one tackling was often poor due to his size. But if you think he was just a try scorer you understaning of rugby is more flawed. His timing of short passes to put people in space was exceptional. Ashton is a good finisher Shane is/was a far far more rounded player.

Ashton could play for another hundred years and not do this:

Rubbish - it's only the other UK nations that disrespect players purely on nationality.
