Just been announced on Sky F1 that he has passed away, aged 78.
Whatever you think of his drink what he, via Red Bull, has done for sport is incredible.
Agreed. Let's hope whoever is now in charge also feels the same...

My old company hated him. Red Bull would never book ads with us. They would however put me on a plane to amazing places and events around the world as they knew they'd get a lot of coverage in the magazine.
They paved the way for lot of extreme sport sponsorship.
Funnily enough I watched the Rampage coverage this evening.

It is a shame - but wasn’t he more into advertising and branding than energy drinks.
I read somewhere today (probably an F1 site) that the only thing Red Bull, as a company, make themselves is an F1 car. Which must mean they don't make the drink then.
Although watching Karen Horner on Sky F1 last night he didn't seem too upset really. He was doing that annoying false upset face that people do when they don't really care but have to look like they do. It may have something to do with him having more important things to worry about like getting caught blatantly cheating.
But the loss of Mateschitz is a big one. He has done so much for so many athletes. Especially in our little corner of sport.
