Ah. I think I can explain.

My mate Andrew lives up that way. He does like to partake of the odd curry now and then. Tis possible he may have had a pickled egg earlier. He is a known lover of sprouts.

I shall make my investigations...

I was just in the smallest room at the exact time and I swear that I heard the deep rumblings of a local quake down here in the Midlands, no movement of house as per previous quakes but unmistakeable noise. Where I live the bedrock is within feet of the surface of the whole area. Just a bit concerning that this area is one that has been earmarked for deep long term storage of nuclear waste material due to the stability of the bedrock (oh and the fact that there no doubt is an old cold war bunker at the nearby army camp.)

Epicentre in Ripley - that's about 2 miles from my house. I was in St Jimmy's Hospital in Leeds visiting my mum so missed it.

We're 8 miles from Ripley in Ripon and felt it quite well. Sofa seemed to move at the same time as noise from upstairs which sounded like the kids jumping out of bed. Only lasted a second or two but it was quite exciting for Ripon!! ๐Ÿ˜€ The wife didnt believe me till she checked the kids who were both fast asleep.

further suggestions that it might have been centred under the north sea.

Felt it just outside newcastle. Dust down the chimney etc. A bit freaky when you are half asleep.

"further suggestions that it might have been centred under the north sea"

Yes, in Newcastle. My double bass rattled against the beam it's propped up against and the computer monitor wobbled. I felt it quite clearly through the floorboards, too. It was strong enough to have me walking around the gardens thinking that it had been a tree hitting the house.

Felt very strongly here (near Settle in the Yorkshire Dales). Mrs had me out with a torch to see what the rumble was - Doh!

I assume it was all us yorkshiremen dropping our wallets in disgust at the VAT increase.

Heard a rumble here near Keswick - very similar to the other week when there was an earthquake in Coniston. Was it just after 9pm?
EDIT - link above says 9.03pm - so yes, I heard it
