Bunch of scumbags.
Diageo are pretty low anyway even before this
If I drank any of the pish that Diageo churn out, I'd boycott it. I don't, though.
Still, will be buying some Brewdog when I next see any. Which will be tomorrow. 🙂
Its been too long since I placed an order.
Thanx aracer!
and to the unstoppable publicity machine for BrewDog run by their enemies.
Bet someone at Diageo is getting a kicking / feels a little silly
I'd not drank a beer made by Diageo long before I started working for BrewDog. Even if I had, I'm certainly not going to drink anything by them now.
I've always been of the opinion that I shouldn't drink urine-like beer when such good beer is available, and in Manchester there has been great places to drink quality beer for quite some time.
On top of that, I will certainly not be drinking anything made by such a petty and half-arsed company.
Looks like someone at Diageo who was at the ceremony got a bit carried away. It was a fairly unequivocal apology from head office. Brewdog is good but a bit up itself IMO. I still prefer Black Sheep and Summer Lightening and loads of other less aggressively marketed ales.
Slight flaw in the Diageo-churns-out-pish argument is that they own several distilleries of repute in Scotland (e.g. Caol Ila, Lagavulin) whose product cannot be questioned.
Anyone been to the new brewdog bar in Manchester? Wall to wall Teds no doubt but the ale should be good.
Absolutely no sympathy from me for Diageo but a lot of Brewdog's stuff is pretty ordinary beer with more effort put into the labels than into the beer.
Not bad but there's loads of better stuff out there.
"Punk IPA" 😆
That is true enough Garry Lager, I'd only mentioned the beers in my preceding posts, not the whiskies or other spirits. I think the only one I may miss will be the Clynelish TBH.
I've been to the Manchester bar (well, I work there, but that does still count as being there). Quite like it so far, nice clientele, nice beers.
I find there beer good and "challenging" some you like some you don't but most importantly big up and support to a genuine independent who isn't going to shy away from breaking into the big time
Diageo popped up in other news this week:
Diageo, one of the world's largest drinks companies, has announced it will no longer fund the Heartland Institute, a rightwing US thinktank which briefly ran a billboard campaign this week comparing people concerned about climate change to mass murderers and terrorists such as Osama bin Laden, Charles Manson and Ted Kaczynski.
Seem like a lovely firm. Mind you, am no great fan of Brewdog's beers but at least their heart's in the right place.
I like Brewdog's stuff, i really do.
Was slightly confused in Te*co recently when I noticed that they are brewing Te*co labelled (American Double?) IPA.
Mind was £1.27 a bottle so the shop came to just over £35. Well you need some peanuts to go with the beer.

this +1

Your drinking the wrong ones then... I love going to my local brewdog pub for a meat and cheese platter lunch and a couple of small but amazing beers. Paradox Stout matured in a Jura cask is wee bit more than just marketing.
So what brands does Diageo own or brew?
[checks website]
Bloody loads of nice whiskeys

and beers are guiness, tusker, harp, redstripe.
However stupid the individual Diageo staff member was at the ceremony to try to influence the result, I'd be more put out that the awards people were so pathetically weak to run with it! The trophy had Brewdog's name already on it!
To be fair, the ceremony people were put in a pretty difficult dilemma by Diageo. Though you're right that it was pretty silly to agree when the trophy was already engraved, and it was clear that the whole thing would come out (though you could say the same about the Diageo people - if they sponsored the event surely they were aware that the trophies were already engraved and that such a stunt would backfire). The question is, if somebody came up to you and told you that they would withdraw all your funding for the next year unless you changed something in the next 10 minutes, what would you do?
Can't really blame it on an "individual Diageo staff member" either, as you'd imagine they had somebody fairly senior there - certainly somebody with enough clout to think they made the decision over what Diageo sponsors (which you'd imagine means having control over a very substantial budget). It is at the least indicative of a corporate culture...

I can't imagine any situation where the the response wouldn't be 'don't be so ridiculous'...
I'd imagine it was someone fairly senior, but clearly acting on his/her own faulty initiative, and probably after a few product samples. It's the corporate equivalent of just shouting 'Banzai', jumping onto the stage, grabbing the award and legging it. I'm sure Diageo are sneaky little sh*ts, but this is the kind of stunt you'd pull a little bit earlier in the process.
Your drinking the wrong ones then...
Yes, of course I am. Sounds like you've been taken in though. 🙂
deadlydarcy - I used to think Brew Dog was overhyped until I started visiting the Brew Dog Pub. I'm not a huge fan of the Brew Dog stuff in bottles... from the tap is a different kettle of fish!
I don't always drink the Brew Dog options... some of the others as suggested by the bar folk are even better-er... and thats' the point... I have the choice because they have made it available... this is about the pub not the beer. I like the-usual-suspects real ale with my sandwich at a-n-other pub, but the Brew Dog offering is significatly more enjoyable.
Congrats to the Brew Dog Pub folk... I may raise a glass too/with you at lunch today 8)
Mine's a Guinness thanks. 😛

some pish, but it's not all bad
Still, congratulations to Diageo for providing BrewDog with another fine marketing opportunity
Some of their bottled stuff does seem to be all label. Still, will try out the new Manchester place at some point. If only to check out what they've done with the building.

fine ales there, but does flavour/taste/quality come into it? or just image. 🙄
