It's Mrs S's birthday coming up and she has been leaving leaving lying around a flyer for these thingies as she's complaining her office desk area is too dark:

Frankly, Im not sure I love her £350 pounds worth 😉

Was toying with a classic anglepoise and good quality bulb instead.
Some OK ones on ebay for £50-£100
Any other brands I should consider?
A long arm would be good.

That's really overpriced for what it is. It's not even a great bit of design. An Anglepoise is far nicer in my opinion.

Saw one of these ginormous Anglepoise's in Heals recently:

I know nothing about lamps, but the one at the top is seriously ug-lee.

The Anglepoise has certain classic look to be sure:

Another vote for Anglepoise. Something just right about them.

How about this

For the same sort of money, what about an Artimede Tizio lamp? Far more stylish:

They have cheaper ones on their website

http://www.seriousreaders.com/mall/departmentpage.cfm/SeriousReaders/_165252/1/Table%2520Lights

n her place I would be disappointed not to get what I was hinting at (assuming that you can afford it and your issue is just perceived value)

How would you feel if you were hinting about a new bike - Orange 5 for the sake of argument - and she bought you a Halfords Apollo and expected you to be happy because it is a "bike"

Last year I spenyt £350 on a Kitchenaid mixer for the Mrs. I could not see much difference from the Morphy Richards specials but knew that the latter would not be received well.

If the lamp is going to get a lot of use then it will be a good buy.

Sucker!

Actually she has no idea how expensive they are as the flyer was from the Bose school of blagging and didnt have a price on it - for obvious reasons as they are ridiculously priced.

I shall roam around on the anglepoise site for a nice big pantograph one

cheers

Cletus has a point, but that site is a total rip-off - check how much they are charging for a 35w MR16 bulb!

cheers guys. anglepoise type 75 on it's way from an ebay shop. Will work well with her desk layout. And I can sort out a perfect colour temp bulb for her.
