a few months ago I started using an app/ website called songkick
Great idea - the app takes a look at your itunes folders, then you get e-mails letting you know about up coming gigs you might want to go to.
However- its rubbish
I have bought tickets to 3 gigs in the last few weeks - all for bands very well represented in my itunes, playing in major venues. Not one of those 3 was flagged up to me by Songkick - all were found through me looking on the artists website on the off chance, or someone else letting me know.
Anyone know a listings site that works?
Thanks
Tim
Depends where you are. If you're in Leeds then try www.leedsmusicscene.net
If you're not in Leeds then I dunno
But I think most will actually require some work on your part
A lot of gig listing sites send out weekly emails (I'm sure you know this already!), you have to trawl throught the dross to find the good stuff though - these are good http://www.wegottickets.com/
I also follow musicians etc on Twitter, which seems to be the best way, these days of finding out about gigs and new releases.
Signing up to artists mailing lists is the other way.
Ents24 is great for the artists who're listed on there!
You can follow certain genres or specific artists, and they email with details as soon as they get listings.
Heh - my brother developed the Songkick site. It does work for me though - I get emails about upcoming gigs near me from stuff played in itunes.
grum - songkick is a great idea and does seem well put together
There just seem to be gaps in the gigs it knows about (certainly in the Brighton area, but I also have it send me details of London gigs too). I'm sure they are working on it so I won't give up on it yet
Thanks for the suggestions
