Why never the men?

They're out trying to get building materials of various types without paying full price, and threatening and cussing at those that won't give in to them.

That's experience talking, that is.

That's pretty much par for the course these days. Lots of vacuous 24hr news channels have to fill the day with something "LIVE! NO, SERIOUSLY, IT'S LIVE!"

Has anybody ever had any positive experiences with these 'traveling' types then?

I can't help thinking that while they're happy to accept the help of the [s]useful idiots[/s] principled campaigners, that they won't be reciprocating by leaping to the defense of perceived injustices

Yes. I've worked with a few who were fine. There's plenty around our area who have bought houses, settled down and got jobs etc, or live on legal caravan parks.

But sadly I've also been sworn at and threatened by at least as many, probably more. A collegue some years ago had his nicked car found in a travellers site, and the police refused to go in and get it back.....

Whilst at Uni I did some landscaping work on a traveller's site in the summer but it was more like a delivery job. We'd lay the turf (paid for by the tax payer), they'd roll it back up and sell it on. We'd plant stuff (paid for by the tax payer), they'd dig them up and sell it on. We'd lay slabs (paid for by the tax payer), they'd dig them up...repeat ad nausem.

Really lovely folk, honestly.

Why wouldn't they be when you were supplying them with free materials from the tax payers?

Well no. Obviously not. I used to work in a pub / restaurant type thing with a pikey site not far away. Every so often they would come in and the place would descend into chaos within minutes and empty of normal people soon after. There are good reasons why hotels etc cancel wedding bookings if they find out it's gyppos!.

Surely this is just another skirmish in the interminable British Class War ?

Planning Laws as the weapon of choice ??

What still annoys me is the case of a 17th century listed farm house that was 'accidently' knocked down by two brothers who wanted to build a bigger faux-mansion house ontop.

Any particular reason that annoys you Hora? Was it the ancestral home of the 3rd Duke of Horacek?
