So 30% university attendance in the 1980s. Anyone know the figures for that era? that sounds quite average – as in, not abnormally bad.
It wasn't bad. If anything it was intended to demonstrate that there was a far greater ability for kids to escape their familial socio-economic boundaries than many people on this thread seem to suggest.
Of those 700 kids, i'd safely bet that way less than 10% of their parents were in the "middle class, university educated professional" bracket.
Poor style perhaps but why incorrect?
Brilliant! 😄
You’re correct of course. My education was every part as shite as my ability to focus. ‘An education’ was discouraged at school/by peers and have been playing catchup since.
Don't do yourself down, your posts are to the point and concisely written.
Mine are full of affectation and flowery language and I am a pedantic **** too. 😉
and I am a pedantic **** too. 😉
I became that when migrated from idiot-class to middle-aged. Now just need to become educated enough sufficiently-educated educated in a manner by which I might carry it off! 👍🏼
Central govt has to give targets and local govt has to make the chnages that are unpopular.
Back on topic - yes, what the UK really needs is governments that will actually do constructive things, especially now we don't have the EU to make us do stuff.
I live near an estate that has been cut off with similar schemes. My convenience may suffer as I can no longer drive through, but instead I go through that estate running and cycling with the kids far more. It’s a wonderful place to be and others wouls realise the benefit too if they got off their arses and out of the car and off the sofa.
Isnt part of the problem for those who live outside the estate and so get the benefits of increased traffic instead?
Not sure I would be overly keen on one of those zones nearby if I got the inconvenience of getting home plus twice the traffic and fumes than before. Which is where I believe some of the complaints about "middle class" comes from. Was at least one of those zones which there did seem to be a fairly convincing argument that it was around a well to do area pushing the traffic into a poorer area.
I would assume the massive gap in the planters is to allow for emergency vehicle access although it does look like the signs could do with being a tad more obvious.
30% university attendance in the 1980
I did my GCSEs in 1993 and only 30% of my year group got 5 at grade C or above. I think that just four of us went on to sixth form college to do A-levels and then on to uni.
If you still believe that “actual work” is getting your hands dirty then I’m guess you voted Leave and Tory in 2019.
In terms of Marxist theory, workers means factory workers, not office workers. I'm not a fan of Marxism, BTW.
The Car is King and Convenience is King absolutely has to stop
You may as well be claiming ‘hot water is evil, showering has to stop. The Globalists woke Jews Marxist Middle Class Cyclist Crackpots want you to be dirty so that they can rule over you make you as miserable and weird self-righteous as they are - for no reason other than they get to ‘win’’
Different words - same effect. Other words are available, again to the same effect.
